2011 Hyundai Sonata: Cat-Calls from Construction Workers

sonata_1600.jpg

The other morning I was walking to where the Hyundai Sonata was parked on a side street. There was a small army of construction workers nearby, completing some residential road work.

As I approached the Sonata, I heard one of the guys whistle. Secretly, I was pleased.

Until he yelled, "Nice car!"

I'll miss the Sonata when it leaves our fleet. But maybe not the competition.

It's a nice car and all but hard to believe anyone would whistle at one. Are you sure you weren't wearing a short skirt?

I agree with firstwagon. The "nice car" was probably so he didn't look too lecherous.

Just when I was beginning to strongly consider the possibility of giving equal consideration to IL's female editors a posting like this comes along. Postings like this only invite gratuitous and obtuse comments such as:

a) Well now that you mentioned it, do you have photos of yourself in a short skirt or bathing suit?

b) How many blondes does it take.......

c) It was definitely the car they were whistling at......

Of course I would never endorse those sorts of remarks and only put them here as illustration of the sort of comments we NEVER want to see at IL.

Like your sexist statement below?

What planet are you from anyway?

I wonder if he's strongly considering giving them the right to vote too.

I'm not sure I like hyundai's new design language. I give them credit for trying something new, but the nose looks ugly and busy to me

Ahahaha, it's always nice to be reminded that you've still got it.

Is it just me or does anyone else find the new Elantra even more striking than the Sonata?

+1 bodyblue.

What era do you live in? 19th century?

The buying public seems to be endorsing Hyundai's new design language in a pretty meaningful way. Even though these cars have been out for a while now, my 2.0T still draws admiring glances and draws strangers in at parking lots and gas stations to ask about it.

newsflash for northsparrow - this isn't the 1940's anymore. You were beginning to "strongly consider the possibility of giving equal consideration to IL's female editors..."??? Dude, please.

The question is whether an Accord or Camry would have caught anyone's attention. Few other base level cars provide the style and features of a Sonata. even with a Hyundai badge, it never shouts budget. And notice that Honda only serves up Accord EX's to automotive testers.

I'll also guess the whistle was at you. The "nice car" was an attempted conversation starter. If he yelled, "nice [nearly anything else]" he would have probably felt too lecherous.

Kelly: you still got it. enjoy the self-esteem boost. the sonata isn't bad looking, but certainly not yell at a stranger nice.

Kelly, let me translate:

you walking to car = milkshake
= smokin' chick
"Nice car!" = crack a smile and make my day

bonus = watch you get in

northsparrow, have you ever read anything written by Erin? She's one of the best editors here, IMO, and I'd literally pay money to watch her kick you in the balls.

I really think that northsparrow was just joking. And he (assumption) drives that home by literally capping the word "never".

Since when have the guys on Insideline been so PC?

eidolways says:

It's really up to Kelly how she takes whistles such as the one she describes. Indignation isn't a requirement, written or unwritten. Simple as that. Chill, people!

This post DID make me grin, though. Thanks for the laughs, Kelly!
