2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor: Dog Leaps in a Single Bound

This weekend editor JayKav and I had to head up to Infineon Raceway in Sears Point for the 24 Hours of Lemons race. This time we were bringing my 6-year-old pit bull, Mya. In any case, after only having her for a month I had no idea of her jumping abilities. So when it came time to get her in the Raptor's backseat, I worried for a bit. The footwells were packed with Jay's gear and the passenger side was walled up with luggage. Do I try and lift a squirmy 60-pound dog into the backseat? After all it's about 3 feet total for her to jump. I figured worst-case scenario there'd be some scrambling.

Fortunately, Mya has some mad jumping skills. She got it on the first try. And I suspect she could kick this Chevy Traverse-jumping dog's ass in a high jump contest.

By the way, I bought a seat harness for her so she was safely seatbelted in for the long road trip.

My 12 yo collie/newfie mix doesn't even try to jump in the car anymore, he just looks at me and I have to lift him in.

Nice! It's great when they are young and can jump. I remember the day my last dog stopped being able to jump in the truck. He landed on the edge of the tailgate front legs on back legs off and then flipped over backwards and landed flat on his back. It was pretty sad. I know he was embarrassed to have to be lifted in the truck the rest of his life. Where would we be without our dogs?

jeepsrt,
Aww, yeah, I'm lucky that Mya is still spry.

sidx,
Yikes, that sounds like that hurt. Poor puppy. Yeah, having my dog at Infineon was a lot of fun. She made hiking all around the track a lot more fun.

It's great when they are young. My old dog, used to walk up to the car and give me the look. You know the look the Queen of England gives her footman? Yeah, that look.

My Chihuahua just had a puppy 9 days ago so we took here for a real short walk while her baby slept...she was so happy to hop in the car for a quick run to the park!

I wonder when my dog will start giving me that look, too.

bodyblue,
I bet!

rick8365,
It's like she's been jumping Raptors her whole life. :)
