Ever been curious as to what kind of buyer purchases a whitish (or, more accurately, Alabaster Silver Metallic, I'm guessing) Honda Accord Crosstour? I know I was, so when I saw one cruising down a trendy stretch of 3rd Street while driving our own white Crosstour, I tailed the car like my name was Jake Gittes or Easy Rollins, just so I could check out the person behind the wheel.
Since I see the Crosstour as a family vehicle for parents (of small families) unwilling to trek into station-wagon or minivan territory, I was expecting our car's doppelganger to be piloted by a harried housewife with crayon stains on her blouse and a wailing toddler in the back seat. Or maybe a spent hockey dad, gazing wearily at the long road ahead.
But this Crosstour driver defied all my preconceived notions.
She appeared to be in her late 20s and judging by her spotless car and meticulous appearance, I'm guessing she's childless. She looked moderately hip and wore a pair of huge, trendy sunglasses that seemed sized to fit one of those gigantic heads on Easter Island. I was worried that she'd see me taking photos of her car and peg me as a stalker but she was too deep in a very animated cell-phone conversation to notice. Felt weird about taking snaps of the lady herself, so my pics show only the car.
A couple days later I saw another Crosstour driver at the gas station. His model was Polished Metal Metallic; gotta say, the Crosstour looks pretty assertive in that color. He also appeared to be childless, kinda stylish and in his late 20s.
So based on this incredibly broad, hugely scientific sample, the typical Angeleno Crosstour buyer appears to be youngish, childless and kinda hip. Not what I would have guessed.
What do Crosstour drivers look like in your neck of the woods?

Well, out of the two I've seen in Austin, it was an older (white haired, balding) guy with his wife and the other was a guy in his 30s or so with a badge on his shirt saying Round Rock Honda-- so I assume it wasn't his car.
I went out of my way to check out the driver, too. I assumed the typical person who would consider this monstrosity would fit the demographic of the Lux 420 SL.

I would love to have a Crosstour, but I can't afford it. I like the design very much, and being old and the children long gone, the lack of cargo space wouldn't bother me at all. It's just that the AWD Crosstour is about 35K, a good 5K over my budget.

There is no way this thing could be considered cooler than a station wagon or even a mini van.

This comment alone is hilarious and awesome - one good reason I've remained child free.

I see it as vehicle for singles and couples of any age, perhaps even with a pre-teen portable, who are into activities like car camping and winter sports, as well as general suburban hauling duties. It has as much cargo volume as the A4 Avant, so I can't see it "lack"ing for that. Given that they sell 7x as many as the expected volume of the TSX Sport Wagon, which is actually less expensive, someone must think it at least acceptable, if not cool.

I'm thinking you might be wrong about that. From a rear three-quarter view, that rear window looks like a fastback.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that this is kinda, sorta like Honda's version of a (Porsche) Panamera. Can anybody else see that? Or, am I very wrong?

Every Crosstour I've seen has been driven by people with 1 foot in the grave and both sun visors down. I've never seen these hip people you speak of anywhere near one.

Crossovers of choice around here seem to be the Escape, CRV, and Equinox, among the young and "hip."
The Crosstours do indeed seem to be among the matronly variety around here. But then again, this isn't exactly Santa Monica.

CT owner here......62,married,both still working,7 grandkids to haul now and then, kids within a 50 mile radius. Wanted a good road cruiser with some room for junk. Don't consider myself to be senile, blind , or stupid......your perceptions may vary.

My neighbors traded their CR-V for a Crosstour. They're ~40 years old with two kids aged 4 & 6 IIRC. Their CT is AWD and I know he likes it though he's not really a "car guy". He's a school principal and the CT is his daily driver.
We only talked about while digging out of the recent blizzard so we didn't waste must breath on it.

Co-worker of mine has a white Crosstour. I'd describe her as an eccentric woman, ~50ish. She sells herbal medicine as a hobby. Has kids that are older, maybe in college. She leases vehicles and loves Honda...will only buy Honda.
She told me she bought the Crosstour when she was going in to get an oil change on her old Ridgeline. She liked how it looked and considers it a small car. Before the Ridgleline she owned a CR-V. All of them have been white.
Its always entertaining listening to non-enthusiasts talk about cars!

My sister-in-law wants one. She is 30, married, a lawyer, and no kids.
I keep telling her they are ugly and look at something else. She really want a hatch/wagon and a manual, so not many options out there.

This is a town that loves its Hondas, but not many around yet.
I saw my first Crosstour recently, parked at a grocery store. My own highly scientific study tells me that the local Crosstour buyer consumes food.

This is pretty crazy and I've never realized this until this blog, but I don't think I've ever seen a Honda Accord Crosstour on the roads where I live!
I must have seen them and I just wasn't paying attention because an Accord Crosstour can't be a really rare car, right? How many of them have they sold? Now I'm going to be looking for them...

HAHAHAHA @ hoosiergrandad love the comment!
I do sell Honda cars and trucks, and would love to have a crosstour, just cant afford one with a 16mo old son at home... the 08 CR-V EX 4WD will work for a while (til daycare done with anyway)
I have sold 5 Crosstours so far, and I must say they are to a very varying group.
1 Business man, single. LOTS OF EXTRAS on that one. (age 35 maybe)
2 Doctor, for his wife and 2 pre-teen kids (age 45ish)
3 Retired Airforce guy and his wife to tour to see family with (age 60-65)
4 Retail management guy for himself who is very tech trendy... (age 30 MAX)
5 Young urban family of 4. Him, Her, kids 2 and 5. (age 28-33)
All of them have told me that they are very happy with their cars.

A coworker of mine has a white crosstour. Its one fugly looking car. Fortunately for him, his oil barren brother in law (north dakota new oil money) gave it to him for.....mainly i think to humiliate him, but probably as a gesture of kindness.
Back up cam is nice.....fugly....fugly....fugly.
.....
fugly.

Good question. I live in a very large (land-mass wise), urban-sprawl sort of area but even with all that road, I have yet to see a single Crosstour on the road. They seem to prefer their CR-V's around here (and in my very scientific data collection, they like their CR-V's in sky blue, and silver. Ick.)

I've just bought a 2011 Crosstour AWD and find it a fun car to drive and I enjoy its creature comforts. I'm 50, married forever, no kids and have a three car garage with a 4-Runner in one bay, a Porsche in another bay and the Crosstour very comfortably between the two in more ways than parking.
I'll bet the demographics of Crosstour drivers don't differ much from the Accord drivers in general. We expect a car that is easy to drive, stops when you want to stop, is comfortable on a long drive, provides reasonable mileage and doesn't require a boat load of service. Most people don't even see the difference between the Crosstour and its Accord cousin in a parking lot. I bought the CT because of the hatchback design and heavier curb weight.

These things are not selling well in Canada. With gas the equivalent of $4/gal USD already, Canucks go with more practical vehicles. Acura is really sucking wind here with a whopping $14,000 rebate on the upscale ZDX. I see Ford Escapes, RAV4's, Equinox's and CRV's here in Calgary.

Crosstour owner here. 38, male, married w/kids. Food consumer.
I wanted a comfortable, fun to drive sedan with AWD and tech features for my 35 mile commute. Love the versatility of a hatchback without wagon looks or SUV gas mileage. I get a lot of compliments on the car.
@vintageflyer,

My wife zeroed in on the Crosstour at our local Honda dealer in August 2010 when we finally went shopping for a new car, after having driven a bulletproof 1991 Camry for 18 years in Northern Virginia and Southern California, followed by a used 2000 Volvo XC station wagon that we bought to keep us warm in Wisconsin (where we live now - it's a long story). After driving our new Crosstour through its first Milwaukee winter, I think maybe we've found our next bulletproof car.

I'm surprised at all the comments about how ugly or "fugly" the Crosstour is! I usually get the new car bug every two years but hadn't because I haven't seen a thing on the road that piques my interest - until I saw a white Crosstour in a lot recently. Love my current "beast" (Land Rover LR3 SE) but can't take it's 14 mpg anymore. I've looked at the Crosstour and really like it - very comfortable, rides nice, and it got up to 26 mpg on my brief drive. I like luxury and it has that. I don't need a great deal of cargo space anymore but appreciate that I can fold down the seats and get it if needed. I don't need 3rd row seating for 7 anymore either since my teen is driving now. So it seems perfect for me - 4WD, luxury, much better mpg, hauling capacity, and surprisingly I like the way it looks. Almost sold - although I feel like perhaps I should be looking at competitors for a better price point and better mpg while I'm looking. BTW, I saw that first and only one at a restaurant - so they must eat, as do I - and though I'm 49, I consider myself to also be stylish and hip!
