2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS: Up on the Housetop

Christmas is coming. And to celebrate, Hyundai Motor has teamed with youtube sensation(?) Pomplamoose to transform covers of three holiday favorites into Hyundai ads. "Deck the Halls" features the Genesis, "Up on the Housetop" with the new 2011 Sonata (just like our long-termer!), and "Jingle Bells" for three other Hyundai vehicles.

You never heard of Pomplamoose? Me neither; Drake and TI are more like it.
But check out the clip anyway. Because Christmas is coming.

Pomplamoose sort of has an online cult following. I'm glad they finally got noticed and picked up by an ad agency.

Here's the Pomplamoose rendition of Mister Sandman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xMCNmUaGko

I hate the Genesis commercial. When my 9-year-old daughter saw the commercial she said "dang hippies."

Are Hyundais fuel efficent enough for hippies? I guess everyone likes money. :-)

I'm a huge fan of Pomplamoose, and they're not just for the twentysomething crowd. They're one of my YouTube subscriptions and I've bought most of the MP3's they offer.

lol, they are not only hippies but total nerds... and nerd is in right now.

I wouldn't call them nerds, more whimsical.

But I guess to the guy who tells people to check in their man card for driving an electric car (purely because electricity isn't 100% cleanly generated), yes - they're a little nerdy to the REAL MAN.

I'm totally into the indie scene, but I can't help but mutter "f-ing hipsters" whenever one of those commercials comes on. I do like the sounds, but the visuals kill me.

Ah, I was wondering if those people were actually musicians or just pretending.

She's cute.

I hate to say it but while the music is ok I'm bored by the end of commercial.

I'd never heard of them, either. But, they are MASSIVE on YouTube. Seems that they aren't on a major label, rather they are part of a marketing deal with YouTube to split the ad revenue 50/50 on their videos. Seeing as how I saw some out there with 5 million + hits, I think they're doing OK.

And there is a method to their madness with the style of their videos. If there is a sound, they try to show it being made at some point during the song. Thus, you get four shots of the singer laying down each part of the vocal harmony. Pretty interesting.

And any commercial with Jeff Bridges is OK by me. The Dude abides.
