2010 Volvo XC60: What Does That Mean?

volvoxc60cruise.jpg

Noticed this on our 2010 Volvo XC60's display. Any guesses what the "(74)" stands for? If you don't know, hit the jump. If you do, gold star for you.

According to the owner's manual (page 156), it refers to the resumed set speed of cruise control. And just FYI, I didn't set that.

Anyway, I thought that was pretty nifty as that's not something I see too often. BTW, Happy New Year!

I would guess that it is the last set speed on the cruise control seeing as how the cruise control icon is to the left. That is just a pure guess though.

My 2006 MB C230 had that option. Of course, one had to dig through the scrolls of menu options to have it displayed.

"cruise control icon" Hmm. I call that a "look at a gauge" icon. Nothing at all about it tells me it is related to cruise control.

Woot. Gold star.

That's a universal standardized symbol for cruise control - a gauge with a tick mark/arrow.

Give the cruise control on the GTI a try, it uses the type of icon in the lower part of the MFD. I kinda find it useful on my GTI...

I've never seen it before I started reading these blogs. Every car I've ever operated, which admittedly doesn't include anything European, has always used "Cruise", "Cruise Control", or at worst "CC".

A well-designed icon is a good thing. But this is not.

I got the gold star. But what do the lines to the right of (74) mean?

Maybe so, but American, European, Japanese, and Korean makes all use this symbol.

..except, as I said, I've never seen it in any American or Asian car I've ever driven. So not "all" of them use it.

bimmerjay says:

Not all of them use it in every single car, but most manufacturers do use it in many of their models. My point is simply that this is a standardized symbol, by no means unique to Volvo or European manufacturers.
