2010 GMC Terrain: Always Nice to See These Buttons

gmc-terrain-memory-f34-1600.jpg
I never used pay much attention to seat memory buttons. They seemed like an unnecessary gadget that automakers added so they could fatten up the features list. Now, however, I glad to see them.

Maybe I'm getting old, but it's nice to set your seating position once and then forget about it from then on. Someone borrows the car? No problem. Just get in and hit the button. I didn't really expect to find this feature in the Terrain. Glad it's there.

they don't link a mem setting to each set of keys?

they should be- thats how GM cars were 10 years ago so I would think the Terrain offers this as well.

Dont know if the Terrain can do this but on higher end models radio, mirror and HVAC settings were linked to each remote as well. I believe the 2009 TL has this feature and they were talking about it like it was state of the art- this was being done back in 2000 on Cadillacs/Buicks/Pontiacs with memory seats.

I am 6'3", the wife is 5'2". Wishing I had sprung for the option package with the memory seat, mirrors, and pedals when we bought our Yukon. Didn't want all the extra junk that came with it, and didn't think it would be a big deal. And it's not, really. But sure would be convenient... Some memory settings even include the steering wheel.

Getting in the wife's car and setting the seat up for myself consists of pulling the slider handle and skooching back a few notches. That's it. The mirrors on the other hand drive me nuts. Considering the weight of electric seats, I would be happier with just memory mirrors. But I suppose all those gadgets would be neat on a car I borrowed, or rented.

I glad to see them too, everytime I get in my car.

In a multiple car household, memory buttons seem like an unnecessary feature. In a family that only has one primary vehicle and drivers of different size, they're a godsend.

Memory buttons are a must-have for me, but I'm just really OCD about the position of my seat, mirrors, and steering wheel. Most car-wash guys and service techs don't move the mirrors or wheel, but they often move the seat.

"the 2009 TL has this feature and they were talking about it like it was state of the art"

That's Acura's marketing dept speaking. The 1st gen MDX had fobs linked to seat memory as well.

Yeah my 05 CTS-V has the seat, side mirrors, HVAC, audio presets, even the nav settings like map zoom level, all set by using keyfob 1 or 2. It does not appear to be linked to the key, however. But of course pressing 1 or 2 on the memory recall takes about 1 second and the ability to remember and recall these settings for 2 drivers is the accomplishment, not being linked to a key or keyfob.

I believe the C6 had settings linked to the fob for its debut, but that was 6 years ago. I'm not sure which vehicles 1487 is referring to from 2000, though.

GM memory feature has always been extensive. The wow feature for me was not only are the seats and mirrors stored in memory but in Caddys the car will remember your last HVAC setting and audio setting. For instance if you were listening to disc 3 track 9 when you last drove the car it will resume playback of that song (if the discs weren't ejected) next time you drive. I still don't think any one else does that.

Yeah I pressed memory 2 once by accident and the HVAC went to split mode with 75 degrees for the driver, 70 degrees for the passenger and A/C on (it was set in the summer). It remembered literally everything.

I bet a 2000 Park Ave would have a driver-based memory system. So should a 2000 DeVille (same platform even). But I don't think it would be linked to the key. Just the remote itself.

@kevm14:

Most new GM's have the key and remote integrated (like most other brands at this point). Their higher-end models have had that setup for a while.

stress83- Cadillacs in the mid '90s had that functionality as did the original Aurora. While GM's reliability woes plagued it during that era, no one out did them when it came to offering comfort and convenience features at a reasonable price. The STS that debuted in '98 even linked radio presets to each particular key fob.

I was not aware that they had them at that point. Interesting tidbit.
