2004 Toyota Prius: Imagine It Bigger

There was a time when the Toyota Prius was THE alternative fuel car to have. But now with the Leaf, Volt and many hybrid alternatives to popular models, the Prius is no longer all that, well, special. So Toyota is making it bigger. Apparently the carmaker will unveil the supersized version at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show next month.

The above video is for something called The Prius Project, where Prius fans were invited to Malibu to put a big puzzle together showing the current Prius in front of the larger 2012 model.

I don't know about you but I'm thinking a Prius minivan is a natural fit.

I agree. but what would look nice next to bigger is "more powerful."

I suppose the big question is whether the hatchback will be a plug-in.

So, if a standard Prius starts at about $23,000, then how much will the hatch start at? Probably about $25,999? From the videos, the cargo area, which is supposed to be 50% bigger than the regular Prius, appears to be adequate but not large.

A Prius Juggernaut version.

Well I guess its time for the "bigger is better" trend to finally really start to take effect even on this thing. Lets hope that they can make something useful out of it.

From a side view, like on these billboards....it doesnt look like its that much bigger aside from the back, will that extra inch really boost sales as a multi family fuel saver? Maybe this picture was taken at a different perspective to throw us off but give us the idea of being bigger; but a few inches here and there (esp the trunk) dont sseem like they are going to do a whole lot ... A Pruis type SUV/Van would be nice but this still seems kinda small

That's one minute and twenty seven seconds of my life I'll never get back.

What alternative fuel are you putting in a Prius? The ones around here run on gasoline.
