Over the weekend I took our Mazdaspeed 3 out to the countryside to visit a rural pumpkin patch with my three-year-old daughter. It was mildly amusing to pull up in the Speed 3 when all the other parked cars at the pumpkin patch were SUVs and vans. Unlike getting a Christmas tree, pumpkins don't exactly require much in the way of cargo space. But admittedly it would have been nice to have some sort of cargo net or the forethought to bring a box; the pumpkins I bought kept rolling around in the Mazda's trunk on the way home.

why didn't you put them in the foot well of the rear seats? Less space to roll over and bang from side to side there...

I had the same experience when I went out to Hood River to get a bunch of apples (for eating or making applesauce or turnovers) in my S5. Almost all of the other vehicles were "mini"-vans and SUVs.
I was able to load up several boxes in the trunk and had room left over for a couple more and for my camera bags and tripod.

You'd be surprised the size of xmas tree you can get into a GTI (or MS3) without damaging anything.

The MS3 looks like its in its element in this picture, too bad it isn't 4 wheel drive and an awesome rally car because it certainly looks the part.

Yay! I finally got my jackolantern ms3 comment :D
@zcalvert. Yeah, hatchback FTW. In a Mazda forum I once participated actively, there were several threads about hauling. Besides several large flat screen Tvs, several of us hauled trees in it! (In my case, a mango sapling).
@lostboyz. "Look he's smiling! He must be making fun of us! Lets get'em!"

For Halloween I would love to see the Edmunds crew carve the MazdaSpeed 3's front-end in a pumpkin.

I cant wait to take my wife and daughter to the pumpkin patch with all of the mini van families surrounding me, wondering "how do they do it without a mini-van?". We pulled it off when we were kids, I see no reason why we can't pull it off now. Already I've been told "oh, you just had a baby? family man! get a minivan!". No thank you, if you like that, go right ahead. My wife said "no freaking way are we getting a mini-van, I'd much rather you get a Speed3...".
5 doors = pretty convenient. I dont need to haul an army, just my wife and baby, with plenty of room for a stroller and a bunch of groceries/stuff from Costco. Go figure...
