Like editor Erin Riches, I really like the soothing blue ambient light that shines down on the center console of our 2010 Mazdaspeed 3. It's just bright enough to give you an idea of where you put your phone, wallet, parking card but not so bright that it distracts you or ruins your nighttime vision...although red lighting probably would have been better in that case. Regardless, it's purty.

That would be the GTI...with the red lighting.

I have a 2010 Mazda 3 (not the Mazdaspeed version) and I love the way the interior looks at night. Mazda did a nice job lighting all of the buttons, keeping the color of the lights consistent, and applying the blue accents to make it interesting but not distracting. I always enjoy seeing the dash light up at night.

Should have just stayed with red or used white light instead of the blue. Blue light is one of the colors in the spectrum that the human eye very easily focuses on. This is good if you want a light to catch someone's attention (blue lights on police cars for instance), but not for all night driving.
This is why aircraft cockpits only use white back lighting on switches and red ambient lighting.
