Every long term car I sell brings it's own type of buyers. After I listed the Camaro for sale I started getting a lot of text messages (the new thing in car buying). I'm listing it for $31,500 and people will write and ask, "Would you take $25K?" This weekend I had someone text and ask what the invoice price was? I had to explain, via text, that it was a used car and didn't have an invoice. His reponse: "Haaa haaaa."
In the past, I've listed cars and haven't heard a peep for weeks. This time, I'm getting a lot of inquiries but nothing solid yet.
So what's all this mean? If I was a shrink I would say that this car attracts a lot of dreamers. The hot design catches their attention and they fantacize about owning one. So the next best thing is to text message people like me who are selling one. Philip Reed, Edmunds Senior Consumer Advice Editor @ 22,320 miles

I'm guessing people see that the car is new, and conclude you must be selling because you're desperate for cash. Just trying to give some of these folks the benefit of the doubt.
Selling a used car privately attracts some strange responses, Ebay seems to be a better option these days.

Is IL letting people know about the rebuilt tranny during the sale of this car?

If a buyer becomes serious, I show them all the service records. In the past, even major repairs such as this have not been an issue. The Nissan GT-R had a new transmission and the Challenger had a new clutch and both cars sold at a good price. If the repairs are done under warranty then it isn't a deal killer.

This LT car has a few strikes against it:
New Camaros are selling below retail now-- which makes 31,500 closer to the selling price of a new 1SS. Obviously a new 2SS would be more, but there is a psychology here, which says: Do I want to buy this used 2SS for a little under the price of a brand new 1SS?
Also, I would think that silver is the least popular Camaro color. So many every day sedans are silver, that I believe most Camaro buyers want a more sexy color. I know I would, anyway.
Finally, there is no sunroof-- which would create more of an incentive to buy.
I predict a selling price of $29,000.

If I was a shrink I'd diagnose anyone who would pay that much money for a car that's been abused by a huge group of drivers who aren't making the payments and had it's transmission ripped apart as clinically insane.
...but I'm no doctor.

the drawback to getting texts like "Would you take $25K?" is that they can't hear the laugh in your voice when you say "no"
"it was a used car and didn't have an invoice. His reponse: "Haaa haaaa.""
Sounds like you are getting some 14 year olds.
Just write "Invoice" on the top of a sheet of paper and then write "35,000" and tell him the invoice is $35,000....

No, just the crazy people that scan autotrader or have access to google will have it. Funny how I can discern you're 14 just by your post. People who are looking for a car are usually too mature to prank someone.

For $27,500 to $28,000 I might consider this car but for $31,500 you guys are out right out of your minds especially with the rebuild even if it was a dealer job.

Honestly, I think that 25K is a pretty good offer for your used Camaro with over 22,000 miles on it.
This isn’t last year, where Camaro’s were so hot that they were flying off the lots and people were paying more than MSRP. I genuinely believe that the price can be negotiated to below invoice, and since invoice on a 2SS $32,923 it doesn’t take a huge stretch of the imagination to believe that one could purchase a brand new Camaro for basically the same amount of money that is being asked for your heavily used one.
I must say, however, that I am always surprised by the amount of money you tend to get for your used cars. I’m sure that there is some dork out there that will not only pay close to what you are asking for your car, but they will be happy about it as well. It seems that if you stick to your guns, someone will eventually pay you what you want. I always chicken out and lower my price if I get a ton of offers are way below what I was asking…

jacton says:

People will pay close to the $31K for this car so they can get their 5 seconds of internet fame.
Personally I would never touch this car for $31K esp. with the rebuilt tranny; that just screams abuse. I see $26K tops.

Not to mention the burnout contest! Good luck in the sale but I have read too much on IL to EVER consider buying one of your "used" cars.
On a side note, the guy saying you can get a Camaro new for under invoice is dreaming. These things are still going at a pretty quick pace and NO dealer will take under invoice. Guaranteed...

I don't think that its such a wild idea. Its October...winter is right around the corner. My local dealership has a 2011 Camaro in their showroom which means its time for unsold 2010 inventory take a decent hit in price. At this time of year, the dealers are at a disadvantage because they really need to get rid of any 2010 Camaros that they still have.
Thats probably why baggs32 found one advertised at such a discount. The fine print says price includes 4000 cash or trade (sneaky dealers) but thats still $1700 under that cars invoice price. No haggleing required.

Thanks for point out that $4000 difference. I missed the fine print at first. FWIW there is a Camaro forum out there that has a thread dedicated to communication with dealers. In that thread dealers often make offers on their new Camaros and a quick glance of it yesterday showed me that even the 2011 Camaros are being sold at or below invoice now. All trims and engines were represented in the many offerings from dealers across the nation.
The novelty has worn off on this car folks. A new Mustang that beats it in everything and costs less to boot didn't help matters much either.

I'm not writing an essay or a letter so why should I care about my grammar on the internet? It's a post on a sub-par car news/blog website. Get over it. What I originally said was a joke and if some one wants to take it out of context and imply that I must be 14 years old because of it then they can shove it.
