2010 Chevy Camaro: Camaros of Many Many Colors

camaros of many many colors.jpg

Our Camaro is boring. Silver on black. Blah. That's almost as bad as a base black on black Mini Cooper. Just look at all the fun stuff you can do to a Camaro. Some of its classy, like the classic orange stripes on white to the horribly naff yellow with black hockey stripes and ground effects kit. Does anyone else kind of dig the base, black steel wheels on the blue one?

Then there's the interior. You can get two-tone beige-black or grey-black, as well as the eye-searing black-orange with the 2SS.

Either way, it's more interesting than silver on black. You're already driving an outrageous car, why be conservative with your color choice?

I actually like the silver on the Camaro and on the Challenger, shows off the lines. Although if I was going to buy one I would get black.

Perhaps you should ask who was in charge of purchasing such a bland combination.

That Inferno Orange image is very misleading. It looks like Hugger Orange, but it's nothing like that classic hue in person. It's unfortunate HO is not offered, but I digress...

Probably should point out right now that I was referring to a general "you" rather than Phil Reed, Ron Montoya or whoever on staff bought the Camaro a year ago. Back then we didn't have much choice in the matter due to the car's limited availability and our need to get one quickly. I was more asking why someone else would get something so dull.

Those "heritage steel wheels" on the base LS model do look pretty cool, but of course the only way to get them is to get the base model. Let me tell you, the interior on the base model is CHEAP. Your long-term SS model gets glossy, fancy looking plastic inserts on the door panels, and that same translucent plastic carries up onto the dash. That's cool. Step down to an LT model, and you get black, dimpled cloth. Ok, that's decent. The door panels on the LS model though are covered in a flat beige plastic that looks absolutely horrible, and then that little strip of the same material carries up onto the dash. It's just nasty.

I lean more toward Challeger than Camaro. If I were buying a retro-pony car, you can bet it would be sub-lime green, go-mango, or plum crazy. I'll never own a 1970 Hemi Challenger. But in a couple years, I might have a used 2010 and it will be a world better than the old one.

Not withstanding that I'm partial to black paint for a handful of reasons, I believe that the more "outrageous" the car's design, the less it needs to be amplified by the color of the paint. I like the balance between designs that stand out and more subtle paint colors (like black).

I laugh every time I see a neon-yellow Lamborghini. Just seems unnecessary and borderline tacky. A car like that wouldn't blend in with a cloaking device.

dont like the heritage wheels and I've only seen them 2-3 times in real life out of the dozens of camaros I've seen.

Actually, in this months GMHTP, GMPP has a '55 that they placed the Camaro LS wheels on -- looks much better on that Tri-Five than the LS. To note, they coated them silver.

Also, as the dowdy-ness of the Camaro will not wear well as the years go by, a darker color like black will make the car look smaller.

I would like to see one with the Heritage Wheels on it. Has to look better than the oversized dubs they put on most of them.

I drive by a Chevy dealer every day and the bright green Camaro has disappeared from the lot while the black and silver ones are still there.

I like the black steel wheels... plus the smaller size wheel probably helps out the ride a bit. Probably not the handling but... it's less poseur.

Yes! I'm not the only one who likes the base black wheels best! Personally, I couldn't see myself owning a camaro (not american enough for my purchase), but if I ever found an aqua blue one with the base black wheels on a dealer lot, I would have a very hard time saying no. At least I would be way more tempted by the camaro than a base mustang or base challenger.

I must be in the minority but I don't find any of the colors available for the Camaro particularly attractive. Well, maybe the dark blue color.

How many IL readers have seen PPG's paint catalog?

The remarkable thing about car paint today is the lack of choice offered by manufacturers
when custom orders ought to be easier than ever to send to the factory.
