What's that? You have yet to liquidate your retirement account to buy that brand new Camaro? (If there's anything left after the market loss of the past few years.)
Well hold up.
GM announced today that the 2011 Camaro Convertible will premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 17.
The Convertible will arrive in showrooms in February 2011 with a starting price of $30,000 including $850 freight.
The Convertible will be available with the same powertrains as the Camaro Coupe. The standard model features a 312-hp Direct Injection V6, and the SS model has the 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 426 hp as on our long-term 2010 SS Coupe. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an optional six-speed automatic.
Although convertibles aren't for me (I just got my hair did), it looks very nice, don't you think?
And you? Are you a convertible guy/gal?

Not a convert guy, but this looks better than the Coupe. Look forward to seeing more photos.
My concern is the loss of rigidity in that platform.

I'm not a big convertible fan, my Parents have an older XK8 Convertible and it just feels like your on display the whole time. I prefer a Targa top of sun/moonroof.

Nice looking for a convertable, but I think it's important to see it with the top up before a final verdict.
But what's with the silly looking satellite radio antenna on the trailing edge of the trunk? It even partially blocks the center brake lamp. I have a feeling they could have found a better solution--that's just plain lazy.

I am surprised that Chevy priced the Camaro convertable 4k more than the Mustang convertable.

I am a 'vert guy; the only gripe I have are that tracking them usually requires a roll cage. Had many exhilarating moments in my Z4 which unfortunately was replaced with something "more practical" when I moved to IL. The new hard top Z4s just aren't of the same spirit. Now that I'm again living in an area where a 'vert can be used more than a few months out of the year, there's likely a Miata in my future. As for the Camaro, I've never been a fan of open top cars that are derived from sedans (Holden Commodore). If the visibility is poor in the coupe, I can only imagine what it'd be like in the 'vert with the top up.

I love convertibles. Hate being couped up and dropping the top would solve my biggest complaint with the Camaro ( you can't see out).

Love convertibles. I don't like driving them on congested roads though because of what JeepSRT noted.
Have there been any photos of the Camaro with the top up? That can completely change the look of the car, sometimes for the worse (350z).

It was fun driving one in Maui, so love it for vacations.
They put a blue one for props in Glee, one with the Britney.

Am I the only one who thinks putting the XM antenna in front of the High Mount Brake Light is kinda stupid. Wouldn't it make more sense and look better if it was a simple thin LED strip in the decklid spoiler?

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the idiotic antenna placement and tacked-on CHMSL (see Straightline post on this car). I agree a neon/LED brake light in the decklid would have been a far better solution, and given that this is a new design that necessitates a unique decklid anyway, why didn't they do it?
That stupid design decision aside, I think I like the look of the convertible (with the top down at least) better than the clown-car styling of the coupe. I love convertibles so if I were in the market I'd likely go for this one over the coupe.

Isn't this blog supposed to be about the Camaro in your fleet? Nothing left to say about the SS or what?

What are reviewers going to do if they cant complain about visibility in this car? There wont be anything else to talk about.

The high rear decklid and the low seating will probably still garner visibility complaints, like the old 350Z convertible I once drove; it was like piloting a really fast bucket.

I would call myself a T-top guy.
I have too many good memories of being with my dad in his T-top Monte Carlo.

Well at least it will now be easier for the Camaro drivers to see all the new Mustangs blowing by them.

i love convertibles, but not sure i'd own one. at least, not as a primary driver. i have a weird thing about being vulnerable and too visible in a convertible. i get too anxious. i'm a nutjob, i guess. lol.
but i love this car. it's beautiful.
