2009 Ford Flex: Different Perspective

views_flex.jpg

I had the Flex a night this past week. A friend was in town and we decided to pick her and a few others up for dinner.

I guess I've been in the Flex so much that the "cool" stuff is just normal to me. My friends, however, thought that the rear sunroofs were really something special. As we drove through the Wilshire corridor, they were pointing out the various sky high condos through the rear sunroofs, wondering aloud what the famous people must do on their roof top decks.

I'm in these cars a lot so I might be a little jaded, but it's the perspective of others that really remind me that the Flex has a lot going for it. Even if it's just hearing your friends ooh and ahh at the big city views through the sunroof.

How do you feel about the gap? Have you made peace with it?

Hey Scott, good pic! Really captured the greenhouse nicely.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the gap.

I'm really digging the lights by the grab handles. That's a really cool detail.

I noted the gap yesterday afternoon for the first time in a couple of months. Oh well. And I much prefer the aftermarket headrest DVD units to the ceiling mount. And as a side note, they rock back and forth - unlike the forward leaning OEM headrests.

I am not jaded - I LOVE the greenhouse in the back seats - especially the 3rd row.

+1 GREAT PICTURE!

The pano roofs are ok, but let's not get carried away. Can anyone explain why there are 2 small sunlights instead of one big one? I remember when the (previous gen?) Maxima came out with the same rear sunlights and they were universally criticized. The LR3 I traded in for my Flex had a big sunlight here (and also had sunlights over the rear 2 rows), and that was way cooler. It's not like the Flex is the first car to come up with this idea. Furthermore, Ford could have put in the industry's largest panoramic sunroof here, which, granted would have been expensive, but THAT would have been a big WOW item. I.e., glass from front to back with the front half opening.
Finally, it's unfortunate, I think, that you either get the panoramic roof or NOTHING. There's no single sunroof option. That would have been nice. If you're not aware, pano Flexes can't have roof rails installed by the factory or dealer.

I do love my Flex, though :-) Seriously.
