2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10: Reflections

Gauges-reflect.jpg

I'm a big fan of the Viper's gauges. I like the layout and the like the dials themselves. But I don't like the way the secondary bank of gauges reflect up in the windshield at night. And the white faces of those instruments makes it that much worse. Annoying.

Nonsense! It's a feature put in by Chrysler! Since Corvette has a HUD Chrysler wanted the Viper to have a HUD! Unfortunately Chevy has a trademark on the acronym HUD and nobody told anyone at Chrysler that HUD stands for Heads Up Display and not Heads Upside Down Display creating the HUDD. With an extra D in the name people are bound to think it's better!

Those are obviously UFO's...can't you tell the difference?

I've always felt like white-faced gauges looked mightily cheap...I can barely think of any place where I would want them. Only in my favorite porsches would I tolerate them.

Remember, the Dodge Neon had white gauges. At least the one I was forced to drive in Driver's Ed had it.

Those gauges in the Viper must be almost as bad as someone shining six flashlights in your face.

Except for his/her last sentence, I'm with clarkma5.

The Europeans taught us white gauges were classy. I've never liked them.

I personally like some white gages (i.e. Porsche). What I don't like is that garish lighting on the Viper gages. Wonder if it has some sort of way you could turn off the gage lighting and light up the numbers instead, like in the 911 turbo. I know it seems that I love the 911's gages, but the thing is, they are very good. Legible, stylish, and providing a wealth of information. Just the way a good gage should be. Oh, yes, and in a nod to the Z06, I do spell them "gages." According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary its perfectly acceptable.

First, just turn down your dimmer switch, and stop complaining. Your driving a car that something like 90% of us never will. Second, and more importantly, why are you taking pictures while driving a $90,000 vehicle!?!
