Our 2010 Volvo XC60 is back. A sincere idiot took it from us almost 5 weeks ago but now all is forgiven. Almost. What once was bare metal is again covered with shiny new paint. Every one of the dents, dings, fractures, scratches, scrapes, scuffs, gouges, creases, contusions, lacerations, and swirlies are gone. Those too are now hidden beneath shiny new paint. But it did cost more than expected.
Total Days out of Service: 12 days
Total Cost: $4,904.45

So, why so expensive? Is it the Volvo or is it California?
The culprit has to be someone still working for Edmunds, I think. If they had fired the "idiot",
Edmunds would probably not have any reservations about giving out his or her name.

That's hilariously expensive.

Ouch, that repair cost would've totaled my car. Front fender, door, door latch, mirror, a-pillar...
Did the $5k cost include replacing everything?

So, where has Brian Moody been???
bimmerjay says:

$5K doesn't seem too out-of-line considering the driver's door likely had to be completely replaced along with the mirror and possibly the LF fender.
The culprit did something stupid but I don't know if I'd call them an idiot. It's not like they ordered 22" wheels on their 2011 Ford Edge or anything...

@bimmerjay: Looking at the accident photos, considering the culprit probably had the door open when he/she crashed it into a pillar of some kind, yes - he/she is an idiot.

It was previously written that the culprit was banished from the Santa Monica office. That doesn't necessarily mean fired, but more like a bad cop being put on administrative duty. We had previously assumed it was a female, but I don't see any of the well-known females who have stopped posting (except for a certain new hire). I haven't even checked the male posters - maybe I have been looking in the wrong area!

I suspect it is someone high up in the foodchain. See how tight lipped they're being about naming the offender?
In this shitty economy, you don't call out your bossman.

Another thing; The 'incident' happened 5 weeks ago but the car was out of commission for 12 days?
Something aint' right, I tell ya!

"I suspect it is someone high up in the foodchain. See how tight lipped they're being about naming the offender?"
I suspect it's because you don't publicly embarrass someone that made a mistake. Why put their name out there for all the immature commenters to humiliate them with nasty remarks about their intelligence? There's no point for public ridicule - I'm sure Edmunds dealt with the matter appropriately in private, as it should be. It never ceases to amaze me how people fail to adhere to common human decency and compassion when posting on the internet.
@acbayard,
Who knows whether the door was open or closed. I saw the latch damage, it could have happened from the impact force causing the latch to pull away from the catch. Either way it still doesn't warrant calling someone an idiot. You don't know anything about the circumstances other than a speeding concrete pillar swerved and struck the car.
