2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS: Practical Hauler?

camaro.cardboardboxes.jpg

This weekend was not one for freewheelin' fun with our 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Nope, since I'm moving next week I had to do boring stuff like use it to fetch cardboard boxes. Why didn't I just take a more suitable long-term car, you ask? The Camaro and the Miata were my only choices as a car to take this weekend.

At first I was skeptical our two-door sports car could handle such a job. I even told the guy who was giving me his cardboard boxes that I probably wouldn't be able to take his whole stack. But then I remembered that the rear seats can fold down so I shoved about 40 broken-down cardboard boxes back there. Sweet! Below is a picture of all the boxes out of the car so you can get an idea of how much the Camaro held.

This weekend, I also had to pick up a dog I'm fostering for the week. I didn't know how I'd be able to fit the dog and her crate in the Camaro but then managed to just stick the crate in the front passenger seat and the dog in the back. After these chores were done, I took the car for a nice drive. It's great to be able to have my cake and eat it, too, for a change.

Never underestimate how many boxes a U-Haul man can put into a car.

I say that from experience.

The real story here is that the last two car choices available were the 2010 Camaro and a beat-up rattletrap of a Miata. That says a lot about the desirability of the Camaro!

Who needs a sedan or wagon??

The dog doesn't look any more comfortable in the back seat than us humans.

Throwback,

She's a skittish rescue dog so she always looks like that. :)

Thanks caroscuro, that explains her look. Or maybe she really prefers Mustangs?

Throwback,
Hmm, probably! Too bad we don't have the Challenger anymore either.

Those pics remind me of all the creative packaging I've done over the years in my cars. I once packed home an entire '73 Sportster in a '74 Triumph spitfire. Honest. Granted, it was a basketcase, but I still got everything to fit: including frame (behind the seats), wheels, forks, swingarm, engine (passenger foot well) and tin.

Anyway, this is another fine example of how much we take modern cars for granted. Really, and comparatively to cars from even a decade ago, today's cars are pretty versatile. Even a bunker of a car like the Camaro.

Thank you fostering the doggie and thanks to whomever rescued him or her. My wife and I work with homeless pets and every one that rescues a pet is an angel.

feloniousmonk,

This packing was definitely not as creative as yours probably was!

bodyblue,

I wish more people adopted rescue dogs and cats. There are so many great pets out there looking for homes. This one, named Bella, was actually rescued from Taiwan. Hope she finds a home soon.

"feloniousmonk,

:) Well, here's hoping you have a more suitable vehicle(s) for the move so you won't have to get really creative.

I also wanted to second bodyblue's sentiment: it's always wonderful to see people like yourself doing what needs to be done. Thanks to our society's penchant for keeping the negative in the spotlight we don't hear about these little kindnesses that are happening all around us daily. It's good for us all to keep in mind the kind of a difference one person can make. Keep up the good work!
