2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS: Cute

2010-camaro-chevrolet-cute.jpg

As I was leaving this morning, two neighbors and a dog were standing in my driveway admiring the Camaro.

"Isn't that the cutest little thing? I just think that's the cutest little thing. Imagine driving a cute little thing like that."

I can honestly say I've never thought of the Camaro in those words.

Right beginning letter, but wrong word. The word that comes to my mind is "caricature."

Cute is definitely not a word I'd use, its not a Mini or something. As for little, compared to what, a Hummer?

how huge are these neighbors that they think the Camaro is small?

Or were they just putting it down in what, to them, was a creative way?

Honest reaction to the car or muscle head putdown?

"Cute" is becoming a common term to simply refer to something as 'good-looking' or 'nice'. I wouldn't describe the Camaro as cute either though. "Behemoth" or "Sasquatch" maybe, but definitely not cute.

Oh dear - the last time a saw a dog admire a car he confused it with a fire hydrant...

That's when you turn the key, with them right by the car and goose the throttle. How's THAT for cute. Do you still think it's CUTE? As the roaring deafening (okay so maybe not deafening) but surely not "cute" sound growls out from the car.

What did the dog think? That's what we need to know. I'm guessing your neighbors drive a large SUV.

I'm guessing they had a really small dog. I just don't think people with a large dog would call a Camaro "cute" or "the cutest little thing."

How nice that you talk to your blind neighbors.

I'm not sure I get all the Camaro bashing here on IL (posters not the editors). Sure the car is impractical, offers no factory nav, and is too heavy, but attacking its styling is just ludicrous. The Camaro is in no way my kind of car but even I have to admit that it is astonishing to look at. Chevy nailed the look of this car in every single way. I'm pretty sure most of the people on earth actually blessed with the miracle of sight would agree that this car (at least in SS trim) is visually arresting at the very least....

"Cute" is like "nice" in its over-usage and banality. But, cute blog entry I had a nice read.

Yes it is ugly!

The Camaro looks interesting and unique but its not my favorite style at all. Call it bashing all you want.

Cute is not a word to describe any muscle or pony car... EVER.

This, and the Avalon-driving Miata basher. The Edmunds editors sure have some...interesting neighbors.

Must be getting paid by GM!

Actually I think the "Edmunds neighbors" perfectly represent the average buying public. People generally know nothing about cars, so what they do know tends to be strange things that they've picked up from various sources, mixed with their own random experiences and prejudices. It always cracks me up when I help people to car shop and hear their random comments, like this recent one: "Why would I consider a Chevy? Aren't they going out of business because they made such bad cars?" [regarding my suggestion of waiting for a Volt test-drive instead purchasing a Prius]

I think we US-Americans' perspective has been scewed. I remember when the Expedition came out, I thought, "Dang, this thing is gigantic." Now it blends in very well among the increasingly-portly vehicles like Escalade ESV's etc etc. In comparison, the Camaro, the roof of which probably just reaches the wheel hub (j/k), looks cute and small. They (your neighbors) probably can't see a Miata or thinks it's a toy. ;)

^^ I was sitting at a light behind a new Taurus the other day. I swear it felt like I was sitting behind an SUV that thing is so disgustingly huge. Why are cars getting so unbelievably enormous? Are we really that fat that we all need furniture-truck-sized vehicles to move ourselves around in?
