I've had a revelation. I like the Honda Accord Crosstour. I was annoyed by the Eco light. I've complained about it not being sporty enough. I wanted a better audio display. I made it the butt of the caption contest several times.
Then I found myself defending it to you. "It's not that ugly," I said. "Here are the things I like," I said.
Then last night I realized, when the car board comes around to me, I choose the Crosstour. Over and over. It has satellite radio with really good sound. It's comfortable. It handles well. It's adult. It's a nice ride. It's a good car.
I used to hog the Nissan GT-R when it was here. I wanted to marry the Audi R8.
OMG, I like the Crosstour.

People are too stuck up. They seen the initial awkward pics , made an opinion and stick to it no matter what. This car is great. And it looks very good in black too,

Two out of three ain't bad.
@nuieve,
While I was taken aback by the initial pictures, it was when I saw one in person did it cement my dislike for it's styling and bloated-ness. For the price, I would rather take the FWD-only TSX wagon over the Crosstour. I would even take a Venza or Edge over the Crosstour, not because they are less bloated, but at least they have a more traditional, wagon-esque look to them.
So far, there hasn't been a four-door "coupe" that has whetted my appetite, including the A5/S5 Sportback.

I've seen them on the road and they look badass for sure from most angles. If it was lowered with better fitting wheels/tires, it would be even better. The pictures always looked funny with the wheel gaps and the scale didn't help either.
Maybe I am the minority, but this, the ZDX, and the X6 are wonderful designs. The Toyota Venza on the other hand looks boring in comparison.

I usually like white color on most Honda cars, however, for the Crosstour, I like it better in silver or black. Personally, I don't think it's ugly. Pontiac Aztek was ugly in my opinion. But if I'm in the market for this kind of car, I'd probably pick the Venza or Edge mainly because of the utility.

by the way, I don't like that grille on the Venza. don't know what the heck was wrong with the designer on that one. however, there is an aftermarket mesh grille for it that makes the Venza looks much better.

This car is, for its limited utility, overpriced. And if it has the ever-present Honda brake problems, it will be relatively expensive to keep in good condition.
Having said that, I don't really think it is a bad looking car. Apparently it is some kind of an image vehicle-- perhaps a cheaper version of the Acura hatchback. So, utility is way down on the list of attributes, and the styling (image) is at the top.
All in all, not a very good way to engineer an AWD Accord.

Oh, and Donna, why not drive an Accord EX-L V6 NAVI and let us know if the Crosstour is worth the extra couple grand?

You're not shallow like the rest of us. You are willing to warm to its personality despite the fact that it looks like a hairy hunch-backed troll. I'm sure Honda is hoping that there are more people out there willing to spend good money on bad ugly.

My my, how the mighty have fallen (tongue in cheek).
I am happy for your honesty, especially in the crosstour-hostile world of IL posts.
I do enjoy the visual that comes to mind when reading jaeger1's depiction of Honda's creation: a hairy hunch-backed troll.
I think you should drive this back-to-back with a sports car and, thought they're rarely cross-shopped, give us your thoughts.

But would you spend you're money on this? Seems completely under-delivering for its price to me.

I could likely live with the looks.
What I could not accept is it's too big and heavy for the amount of useful room you get.
Sure it may have it's good points but so do a lot of better cars for the same price.

Ok, to each his (her) own.
but as others have brought up,
Would you actually buy it given the extra $ over an Accord sedan?
That I think it's ugly is nothing more than my opinion; but I truly can't understand how it would be a rational purchase.

Sorry, I still don't get it, but I'm glad you like it Donna, even with its weak Honda seat heaters.

I just realized something.
Park the Crosstour next to a Porsche Panamera and I would think that Honda and Porsche were talking to each other at some point. Neither are very practical in terms of cargo capacity, but Porsche is at least offering a Porsche.
Perhaps the Crosstour is a competent car, just like other Honda product, but it doesn't offer the capacity of hatchbacks such as the Toyobaru Outback/Venza. Nor do I think it drives better than the Porsche. It just seem to be a desperate effort to please the form over function CUV crowd.
Honda used to offer something unique in all its products, VTEC of the NSX, double wishbones in a Civic, 70 mpg Insight, disappearing 3rd in the Odyssey, Magic Seat in the Fit. Nothing about this Crosstour is uniquely notable.

Its a Honda. What else needs to be said? I dont think anyone is surprised that Donna and the rest of the staff are positively enamored with this bloated vehicle. Thus far I think there has been one semi negative post about this vehicle. Most of the IL can't come up with one objective criticism. Instead we get posts about how its a good highway cruiser, has a nice nav system and a great stereo. Who cares? What $37k (or cheaper) vehicles don't have those features? Its a basic expectation that a vehicle with this pricetag offer a decent engine, good ride quality, quietness, safety, etc. None of that changes the fact that this vehicle is unsightly (although not as bad as some claim), small inside, expensive and lacking in features expected in this price range. I cannot believe (OK, thats a lie) how so many posts have defended the styling of this thing while the Terrain has been almost universally bashed for its styling on the LT blog. You cannot tell me there arent at least a minority of IL staffers who like the Terrain and don't like the Crosstour.

I know that the Crosstour is larger, but who on earth would buy this over, say, an Infiniti EX35? The EX's max volume capacity is only 4 cubic ft less, is roughly the same price, has better performance (at least by the numbers) and is roughly the same price. And even though I don't personally like the EX, it is nowhere near the eyesore that the Crosstour is. What a visual embarrassment.
1487 says:

The crosstour is 195" long and has 51 cu ft of cargo space. That is almost 2 feet longer than some small crossovers that have far more room while weighing hundreds of pounds less. Aside from the V6 I'm not clear why anyone would get this over the CR-V which is lighter, cheaper, more efficient and larger.
pyo_s65 says:

@willin58: The EX has really small rear seat room. Crosstour is Accord sized, i.e real adults can sit comfortably.
@1487: I am pretty sure that the CR-V is much slower even with the new 4 banger. Another Honda crossover with better performance would have to be the RDX, which is similarly sized to the CR-V and with interior quality to match the Crosstour. Price wise I think they're close too.

With so many better choices on the market that don't repulse the buyer on first sight, there's no need to force yourself to _ eventually_ like something.
Just get the one you liked in the first place!
The RDX would be a better choice, with a larger interior, and better handling!
eblock2 says:

Yeah for the money it costs you're in Acura territory, might as well get an RDX. Doesn't make any sense.
