We priced out our 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and were pleasantly surprised. Even with a $600 hit for extra miles (we're at 26,200 miles now) the True Market Value Price is $29,200. Back in February 2009 we paid $34,600 for it so the drop off hasn't been too harsh.
We're thinking that black is the preferred color for this bad boy, as is the six-speed manual transmission, so we're going to put it up for sale for $29,900 and see what kind of interest we get.

If you can get $29,900 I will be impressed. My guess is $28,500, that includes the IL car abuse hit.

I would bet closer to $26k ... your TMV calculator is nearly always overly optimistic in terms of price--never had any of my cars go for that (and I keep mine meticulously cared for), and in my time of reading this column, even you guys don't get TMV value.

While it looks like a stealthy monster in black, I prefer Hemi Orange and have a slight affinity to the Deep Water Blue. I know, I'm odd :P

Will you change the TMV calculator if you can't get it ;)

Considering I just priced out a new one on Dodge's website for $32,500, with no options save the manual transmission mind you, I'd rather pay extra for a new one.
I think you may have a hard time getting what you're asking.
@questionlp: Orange would be my choice as well!

25-26k. Dead company, car has a limited amount of appeal and TMV is pretty much always wrong.

I don't know, I figured interest in these things would drop off, but they're still a hot car.

At 26k miles, car is over 25% of the way to 100k -- and you're pricing it at a measly 13.5% depreciation hit?
Hahahahaha. Good luck and I hope you get it.
$25k maybe - but that's not even a 30% drop over new. I'm thinking when all is said and done you're really lucky or $24k takes it.

CarMax has the same model with 23K miles for cheaper (and it wasn't abused by the Edmunds staff).

Agree with what others have said.....somewhere between 24.5-26.5 is my guess.

According to what I've seen, G8s have dropped even less. And they appeal to a different audience.

@kingkhalas
That model doesn't have the same options...mainly the HDD Nav.

You're right. No nav.

With as much praise as you guys have given this car, I'm suprised there isn't an edmunds.com employee lined up to buy it... but maybe you don't pay them enough, well except for Karl since he bought the Ford GT! haha

I hope you prospective buyer is able to scratch-up the cash, elstwise you'll be competing against slightly higher priced NEW cars offering special dealer financing as well as a blank odometer.

TMV is a pretty much useless number. A used car is worth exactly whatever someone is willing to pay and not a cent more.
You're free to ask whatever you want but the price is set by the guy who writes the check.

I agree with the others. TMV is great and all, but market will determine the price. It's all about supply and demand. If the car gets lots of attention, you'd better believe they're sticking to $29,900. But if two weeks go by with hardly any serious buyers, they might have to go as low as $25,000.

@06scooby: That is a great thought, which gives me an idea-- Why can't Emunds, within its enoormous staff of carlovers, offer the retiring LTRT cars at a reduced price? One stipulation would be that the new owners would need to turn in reports at some interval, telling us how the old girl is holding up.
And I mean at a greatly reduced price.
Which would possibly create an atmosphere of civility toward the LTRT fleet, since the testers would know that someday the car they are abusing might belong to them.
Naaah! Let's just keep blowing them up!

There is a Challenger buyer born every minute. I wouldn't figure much over $24, 800 for that car though. Nice retro design though, I must admit.

IF some of you think the built in Nav ups the selling price that much in a used car, well you're NUTS.
