2010 Suzuki Kizashi GTS: Decent-Sized Trunk

kizashi_trunk.JPG

That Easter visit I wrote about yesterday was actually for a few days, so I had the Kizashi loaded up with stuff. You can kind of see the loaded trunk in that first photo, but here's a close-up. The Kizashi's trunk is listed at 13.3 cubic feet, which is 2 or 3 cubes smaller than the norm. Even so, I was pretty impressed with what I could fit in here, with the trunk being sufficiently wide and tall enough for most items. The only problem I encountered was the trunk hinges, which do take up space when you close the trunk lid.

Suzuki did a great job making a Japanese Jetta.

A bit sad that the SX4 sedan's trunk is 1 cubic foot larger, though.

It maybe so that the SX4 trunk is larger but it also looks like clown car from Playskool.

It is nice that the trunk hinges are covered but I hate that design....it eats up a ton of space.....the strut design is so much better even though it makes the opening a bit smaller.

Maybe so but it's also $11,000 cheaper (Canadian prices)

I seriously doubt anyone lookin at the Kizashi will cross shop an SX-4 or vice versa. 2 very different cars targeted at very different markets.

Not at those prices.

But they are both 4 cylinder Suzuki sedans of roughly the same size. The Kizashi doesn't really look like anything special so I would imagine a number of non car guys will look at the 2 and wonder why the big difference in price.

I have owned a Suzuki Kizashi SLS AWD in platinum silver for nearly two weeks now. Before you go bashing this car to bits just for the heck of it, I suggest you drive it. I have never been a huge Suzuki fan. I previously owned a 2005 Mercedes Benz C-Class 4matic. However, the Kizashi holds its own up against the MB. There is a subtle increased difference in road noise from the Kizashi. The Kizashi has the same type of trunk hinges as the MB. The center stack is very reminiscent of C-Class MB. All this is certainly not a deal breaker. This car is larger, more upscale, better appointed, as well as better constructed, than a VW Jetta. I previously owned a 2004/05 Jetta TDI as well. The passenger doors on the ride side of that Jetta rattled and shook like a couple of maracas til the day I got rid of it--despite being a model that was actually still made in Germany. Now, I know it's not really "cool" to like Suzuki--- but perceptions can change, especially if you give it a test drive. God knows I was no fan of the Suzuki. Comparisons of Kizashi and SX4 are glaringly obvious...because they are worlds apart in design, performance, comfort, etc. The AWD in Kizashi uses i-VSP (next generation intelligent vehicle stability program) which is similarly used in the Porsche Panamera. I'm thinking SX4 doesn't have that.

@stapletondoc,

The difference is that hinges on the Mercedes were covered, they didn't just come down and crush cargo like they do on the Kizashi. Now the W204 is a different story, because it actually has exposed hinges. THAT is unacceptable.

Either way, this has made me interested in driving a Kizashi. I would never buy one, but I'd like to see for myself whether it lives up to the hype. I hope it does, because it seems to nicely fill the void the Mazda 6 left when it moved up a size. Strap a bigger engine under the hood and it could create the same cult following the Mazda did.

Honestly I think the Suzuki is a great car. I may go and give one a test drive to see what its really like. I wish it had 200+ hp though in GTS trim.
