Skid Pad Lateral Acceleration (g): 0.78

Handling Rating: Average

Db @ Idle: 43.3

Db @ Full Throttle: 72.9

Db @ 70 mph Cruise: 65.8

Acceleration Comments: Best run with traction control on. No wheelspin. Hates brake torque. Only gets slower.

Braking Comments: Typical Honda brake performance. Best run is 1st run. Degradation of distance and pedal feel after that.

Handling Comments:

Skidpad: Stubborn, howling understeer with VDC off. With VDC on, brakes can minimize understeer effectively.  Slalom: Remarkable balance for what would appear to be a tail-heavy vehicle. Some oversteer is possible, but best runs were 'less-is-more." With ESP on, the system tidys up the line so well that it went quicker.

I wonder when (if?) Honda will ever learn to manufacture autos and related vehicles with decent brakes. It has been a weakness of their products for years and years, and does not seem to be getting much better. I even notice indifferent performance on test drives. Everyone I know who has an Odyssey has replaced rotors and pads multiple times, as have several Pilot owners.

Driving in the mountains stresses brakes, not sure I would care to own a Honda in those driving conditions, whatever other good qualities the vehicles may have.

37 Grand????

I thought it was like 27-29....

stephen987 says:

The acceleration and handling of an Odyssey, without the style.

06scooby says:

or the 3 rows and cargo room!

price is too high.

lmbvette says:

Agree with stephen987 and 06scooby, for the price, how could one pass on an Odyssey, unless you really, really need that AWD.

billt9 says:

59 mph?
This thing has worse handling than a crossover, which are getting 65 mph nowadays, such as the CX-7 and Outlander.

So what's the advantage of a wagon at all?
The Crossovers are faster, more agile, have more cargo space, and identical mpg.

Why does anyone want a wagon?

Snore..snore.

Has it grown a tumor? That is the worst angle for that car.

"0 - 60 (sec): 8.0"

That's worse than the Kizashi! ;)

You guys had to work pretty hard to get it up to $37K. They start at just under $30K (which is still too much).

"You guys had to work pretty hard to get it up to $37K. They start at just under $30K (which is still too much)."

Not quite. AWD models START at $34,020. And you thought $29k was too high? Considering what it is, and especially how it looks, it's waaaay overpriced in my book. I'll pay a little more for style which this thing has zero of. In fact it may get negative points for style on the official style-o-meter.

carguy622 says:

So it's slow (relatively speaking), ugly, overpriced, and has typical Honda-weak brakes. Wins all around.

I'm not generally a fan of Toyotas, but if this type of vehicle is what you're after, the Venza looks (literally) like the better buy.

ed124c says:

The Venza tops out in price higher than the Crosstour, but the base models are cheaper than the Crosstour because they have a 4 cyl engine. However, you can get a nicely equipped Venza for about the same amount as the Crosstour. What muddies the water is that, I believe, all Crosstours come with a sunroof.

carguy622 says:

The Crosstour may come with a sunroof but it doesn't come with the one piece of equipement ot really needs: beer googles.

1487 says:

The CT doesnt even have many options. Its easy to get it up to $37k. A 7 grand price range for a model in this era is pretty narrow.

zcalvert says:

11:29 AM, 04/23/10

It seems like there are so many better/cheaper/more attractive options than this thing... I can't begin to understand why anyone would buy this.

Considering that IL got the Traverse for $36k + TTL, who on earth would consider this eyesore in comparison? Outside of die-hard Honda lovers and GM haters, that is.

1487 says:

12:54 PM, 04/23/10

the thing is, it doesnt HAVE much of anything. Sure its got nav but thats expected. No power liftgate, 6 speed, panoramic roof, remote start, HIDs, sliding rear seat, push button start, etc.

Wow, from reading all these comments, you'd think the car insulted everyone's mother or spit on your kids. I've seen a couple of these on the freeway and they're not so offensive... the rear end looks like a Civic coupe, expanded into Accord size, which isn't a bad thing. I didn't see the front as much, being on the freeway and all, but from my mirrors it didn't seem so horrible either.... sure, maybe it doesn't appeal to you, but why bother complaining about all of that?

DLu says:

Since I bought it, I am obsessed with comparing various vehicles (I love apples to oranges comparisons) with our 2011 Sienna.

So from the IL comparo, the Sienna beats this fugly thing (by a little bit but still...) in 0-60, slalom, 1/4 mile, 60-0, lateral g's; yet weighs 500+ more pounds with less hp; is quieter, etc. And don't even get me started on how much more room a minivan has than the crossovers on the market (let alone this little thing). W. T. F.

The Sienna is like the polar opposite of a performance machine; to be beaten by a Sienna is shameful and pathetic. And ours was 80% American parts and assembled in Indiana. WOOHOO!

zcalvert says:

02:16 PM, 04/23/10

@moar_revs -

Ok, what compelling reason can you offer for buying one of these? Price, appearance, interior build quality & features are out - what's left?

Based on all the IL posts about the car, the only positives I see are decent steering, decent seats, and somewhat useful features in the cargo area.

The question remains: why on earth would anyone buy this rather than myriad better choices for any reason other than irrational loyalty to a brand?

This deserves a big FAIL stamp!!!

Those numbers look an awful lot like another Honda that Edmunds tested.

The 2002 Odyssey. 0-60 in 7.9, 60-0 in 134, 58.2 in the slalom (01 model, 02 wasn't listed).

The Crosstour J35 / 5 speed powertrain looks an awful lot like that old Odyssey, too.

A worldbeating powertrain. In a $25K minivan 8 years ago.

I think no I KNOW my truck could out do this thing even with shot brakes and tires.

joefrompa says:

I'd rather get the new outback 3.6r limited....which is almost 4k less similarly equipped.

v8vroom says:

This thing is pointless. Who would buy one of these?
