2007 Ford Edge SEL: More Buyers Than We Anticipated

money shot-1.jpg

The Autotrader.com ad for our 2007 Ford Edge SEL was posted Friday afternoon and less than 24 hours later a buyer came to test drive it. This response was much faster than other long term cars we have had to sell. This means we either priced it too low or it is much more popular than we expected.

We listed the SUV for sale at the clean condition level for $17,900, just a shade under our True Market Value price of $18,033. It now has 36,000 miles, will need tires within 10,000 miles and has a star in the windshield that has been sealed with a repair kit.

We got a call from another interested party who pressured us to show the Edge to her Saturday night. She later backed out because she couldn't talk her husband into making the trek at that time. But, again, the interest level in this Ford surprised us.

We'll let you know when we sell it and the price we get.

I hope when it sells you give us a proper wrap up including some details on why it fell off the radar for a year (despite repeated requests from readers for updates) and why it acumulated such low mileage (36k miles after 3 years in IL's hands is about half what I would have expected).

What the??? so you did still have it, huh?

I'd like to once again suggest paring down the long term fleet to a size that allows you to post regular updates on ALL the cars... seems more useful than the current strategy of allowing many to seemingly disappear into black holes.

WHAT!

It nice to have a update on the Edge but a year after you last did a real update on the car you double the miles on it and otherwise keep tight lipped about it.

Did the CIA borrow it for awhile?
FBI?
NIS?
The Russian FSB?!

You still have it?

The last time you posted an update on it was nearly two years ago.

+1 to all of the above.
I saw the pic and thought it was a new vehicle introduction.

It's like seeing bigfoot, I didn't know the Edge even existed.

The above issues, along with one that bothered me in the intro to the Traverse point towards an issue with the LT fleet management. I think there are too many vehicles in the fleet, just so the Edmunds.com staff doesnt't have to buy/drive their own vehicles. I recall a line in the Traverse intro about needing a 7-passenger vehicle. Can't they buy their own? Also, didn't Editor Oldham just lease his own CX-9? Granted, it's not really my place to be critical of their practices and I rely on this website daily, but this seems like corporate abuse beyond taking some pens or a notepad.

Just my little rant for the day.

There does seem to be either an integrity or a process issue with this car.

If it is the personal vehicle of a IL staffer or exec, then don't call it a long term test vehicle. The other staff/exec's BS detectors aren't going to be thrown off, and the wink-and-nod approach to benefits will only start the decay in your corporate integrity.

If it is a long term test vehicle then post regularly, and hold the staff members that racked up the miles accountable to do so.

If this is some loop hole that you're exploiting in the tax or employee benefits laws, welllll....then it it between you, your corporate council, and the powers that be.

Why do people feel Edmunds "owes" them an explanation for the Edge's absence? This is a free site and they'll tell you what they damn well please. There's no warranty expressed or implied that you'll get daily updates on every car. And before 2006 or so there was no such thing as the Long Term Blog, so you got NOTHING then except for updates every other month or so.

Sheesh, who cares where the Edge has been.

bimmerjay, no one "owes" anyone anything. However, if Edmunds wants to maintain it's stature as an automotive reference company (they get quoted by the mass media all the time), they need to earn that distinction. Part of earning it is to provide consistency and quality. If we feel they are failing in that respect, we should point it out.

I've never agreed with the "if it's free, you can't complain". Yes you can.

I agree with you there. However, in this case, I think it's complaining just because there's a forum to do so (this comment section). People just want to believe that there is some conspiracy with the Edge. Who knows, it might have been Karl Brauer's wife that was driving it.
