2010 Volvo XC60: Smooth

volvo_xc60_garage_1600.jpg

Part of the pleasure of driving the 2010 Volvo XC60 is its smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. When you're cruising around, it climbs through gears almost imperceptibly with no bother to the driver.

And when you want to kick it on the freeway or up a hill, it's always eager to comply with a smooth and quick downshift.

Have any of you driven a Volvo XC60?

No, but I've had 2 Volvo's in the past and they've always been smooth. The steering has always been too smooth, hated it..

I drove a rental S40 for a week. It was fair enough. I guess the trans was about as smooth as a VW's. *shrug* I've just never really liked Volvos.

Driven one and own one. Love it every time I drive it.

I've owned two S40's in the past, a 2003 and a 2005. I only owned the 2003 for two years. I was in an accident with it and it always had issues after that so I dumped it for the redesign when it came out.

The 2005 S40 was the worst car that anyone in my family has ever owned. I got rid of it after 3 years and only 34,000 miles. During that time I had the alternator replace, both front axles replaced, the radio replaced 3 times, the driver side seat belt replaced twice for fraying, the brakes replaced at least 4 times because of squealing and abnormal wear. Not only that, but the little approach light under the driver side mirror would mysteriously fall out on it's own every now and then.

I traded it in on a BMW 328i, and surprisingly I have had zero issues with the BMW, aside from rattles. That was the one thing the Volvo was good about, I never had any rattles with it.

Anyways, I really, really like the styling of the XC60, but after my S40, I am extremely wary of buying another Volvo product...

Have an 02 S60T5 - 130,000 flawless miles on it. Moving on simply because of miles, but I imagine it will run for another 100k with no issues.

one more thing Volvo is good at:
Ever close the door on a new Volvo? Sounds like you are hermetically sealing yourself in a box, I like it.

Please not, in spite of my username, I am not Volvo biased, in fact I hate the xc90, barely tolerate the old V70, and think the last good car Volvo made was the V70R, and before that the 1986 group A 240.

Is the XC series related to the Mazda CX series at all? They look similar.
