2010 Volkswagen GTI: Caught in Traffic

2010_vw_gti_camo_gt_4_16000.jpg

I was driving our 2010 Volkswagen GTI into the office and caught this guy driving in traffic beside me on the freeway. Looks a heck of a lot like the 550i Gran Turismo we tested last month. Why is it still wearing the camoflauge? We couldn't tell you. But in my opinion it isn't much more attractive with the camo off. What do you think?

Perhaps they should sell it with the...oh wait, nevermind. How about some information on the GTI itself?

It used to be I hesitated buying a BMW because generally BMW drivers around here are jerks or idiots, or both. Now I hesitate to buy a BMW because this is what a BMW is now.

Seriously, I was getting ready to hear what the 6 speed was like in traffic! I thought I clicked on the GTI blog....

Ah you guys gotta lighten up. Am I the only one who thinks spotting a camo'ed car pretty darn cool?

Sit On esplanade in redondo beach you'll see tons of these around 4:30 to 7:30.... mercedes and bmw.. with the occasional toyota and honda prototypes in camo... Don't know why they choose this area but makes for great car watching.

Looks like the Crosstour sowed some wild oats in Deutschland.

How sad would it be if that thing was the M5 GT?? Or is that MGT? The madness!

@carluvr1

well honda and toyota north america are headquartered in socal. nissan i think still has a design studio there (they used to be headquartered there too in torrance right near honda and toyota until ghosn went penny pinching on them)

Thanks for the fake GTI entry!

By the way,

The following BMW's are very ugly.

1 series
7 series
The Gran Turismo

Hatchbacks > Sedans. It's science.

those dont look like BMW wheels to me. they have 7 main spokes (14 in all) and the BMW wheels that are a similar style have 10 main spokes.

This tells you how interesting is the GTI when you post something about a camoflauged BMW instead....LOL

The camouflaged version at least has an excuse for looking ugly ;-).

What irks the most on this car is the type of letter font that was chosen for the 'GT' badge on the hatch. Hate it! Looks like something that belongs on a cheap Ford or Hyundai.

My favorite part are how the letters are slanted so that you are convinced as a customer that this car is SPORTY and FUN!!

It looks like something from the 1980's. Anyone remember the VW Dasher?

tmanz says:

we need to have a contest where people take their normal every day cars and wrap them in padding and those swirly graphics like it is a test mule and see who can get their car on a real car website first listed as a new version of their model being tested.

@tmanz,

No one would fall for it unless you had manufacturer plates.
