2010 Honda Insight: Just Like the Mini

When you first put on the A/C in the Insight you get that same moldy stench as in the Mini. It clears up after a few minutes but what's up with that? Pew.

My wife always complains about this on her Odyssey too. Thanks for the reminder that I need to figure out what to do. Changing the filter doesn't help.

Could it be that they don't run the evaporator to conserve battery?

swich off the recirc when you park that way the moist air from the evaporator has somewhere to go.
They have sprays you can spray into the system to kill the stuff off too.

Lysol or, better yet, Ozium work well for this. The mold in car A/C systems always gets me congested.

Easy to avoid. 1. use the AC less. 2. Turn off recirculate. 3. Run the HVAC without AC/Recirc about the last minute of every drive.

My car had the same issue when I bought it used, but then went away after several weeks. Probably because I rarely use Recirculate, and it dried out.

Drive with out the recirc on... like several other people have said. Actually drive without it on ALL the time unless you are behind a stinky truck. It will keep the cabin air from getting stale. Of course in LA the air is probably stale all the time so...

Click and Clack usually recommend checking the condenser's drain. They can get plugged up and grow mold, which can be bad for you. The fix is blowing it out with a compressed air hose and, if possible, getting some lysol in there.
