2010 Honda Insight: Give Me Some Feedback

2010_Honda_Insight_1600.jpg

Maybe IL's Executive Editor Michael Jordan was right about the 2010 Honda Insight being a worthwhile long-haul car because of its fuel economy. High mpg and infrequent fuel stops are a bonus, to be sure.

But over 70 mph, it feels like the Insight loses contact with the road. Everything feels too light. And I hate that.

I'll take more feedback and an additional gas stop, please.

I can't remember the last time I drove a car that felt like that, but I know what you mean, and it is annoying. I'll take the Fusion hybrid please...

I'm so disappointed in this car. Normally I find Hondas to be well-engineered and designed vehicles, but I just can't warm up to this car (and the Crosstour).

I wonder if it feels that way because of it's drag-reducing profile.

They should take a tip from BMW's engineers. The MINI is one of the most planted feeling small cars I've ever driven at highway speeds. Likewise for the 1-series.

Dont go over 70.....there isint that easy? The Insight is not a track or sports car, it is a an economy car. Last time I noticed the speed limit was 65 on California freeways and with SoCal traffic I wonder when you get the chance to go even 65? Are you claiming it is unsafe at 70 or that since you drive many high performance cars that are designed to travel at high speed you are not used to its feel. Folks need to stop trying to compare economy cars to BMWs. Expectations need to be set according to the car and its mission in life.

Are you guys saying that BMW is the Ultimate Driving Machine? ;)

@bodyblue

"Folks need to stop trying to compare economy cars to BMWs."

The MINI's base MSRP is $20,000. The Insight's is $19,800. Different target markets, I know, but it goes to show a car can be engineered to be engaging at a lower price. I see know reason why the Insight can't feel a little more connected. It doesn't need the MINI's go-kart feeling, but the Insight feels wafty and numb almost to the point of being dangerous on the highway... if it felt like the Fit, I'd be satisfied.

+1 lowmilelude

low drag = low downforce (if any)

You don’t prefer the “I’m flying!” feel?
