2009 Infiniti FX50: It's a Wrap

2009_infiniti_fx50_f34.jpg

Say so long to our 2009 Infiniti FX50. It performed its year of service pretty much trouble free. A few minor issues were all that concerned us.

It was a funny looking beast, kind of reminded us of Admiral Ackbar. But it was fun to drive.

Dear 2009 Infiniti FX50,

You are more grotesque than the Elephant Man.

Tootles!

I normally think vehicles in this category are ugly (see BMW X6, Honda Accord Crosstour, Toyota Venza) , but the Infiniti FX, even after a rather garish makeover, is still something I love looking at.

Good riddance.

It reminded you of Admiral Ackbar? What, was the navigation always telling the driver they were headed into some kind of trap?

"our cruisers can't repel vehicles with this uselessness!"

Sad to see it go, but that means that you now have a slot for the M37/M56. ;-)

It not a looker nor is it very practical but it didn't break down I have to give it that much.

You forgot the exclamation point in "It's a Wrap!"

I don't care much for crossovers, especially ones that try to pull some ridiculous coupe thing off, and I usually don't care much for Infiniti styling, but oddly I did enjoy the updates on this car. If I was in the market for a luxury crossover, this would certainly be near the top of the short list.

Finally,
too bad we now have the Terrain and the Crosstour to replace it.

I'm going to second mrryte and ask for an M next time a slot opens up in the LT fleet. I didn't care for Infiniti much before, but each new product makes me warm up to them more and more.

LOL @ skyggge! It seems so obvious in hindsight.

Kind of like the FX50...

I would also like to see the new M37S/M56S in the long-term fleet.

That would be excellent!

To modify the old V8 Tomato juice slogan:

"They [Edmunds} shouldn't have had a V8".

All the faults of the FX50 are why 80% of FX buyers opt for the FX37.

aspade says:

I agree the V6 would have been more relevant but the only major fault it fixes is the pricing. Benz or BMW charge $8000 a piece for more cylinders, Infiniti can't.

And it's more like 95% in favor of the V6, the FX50 is special order (and car magazine) only.

It was strange but reliable so that is a good thing.

"All the faults of the FX50 are why 80% of FX buyers opt for the FX37."

I'd say the V8 is the best part of it. With a V6 it's becomes a complete mystery why anyone would buy one.

I loved the styling of the original FX, I still can't believe how Infiniti mucked it up with this redesign. It's like they just had to make it more dramatic and different merely for the sake of change. Anyway, good that it was a solid performer throughout the test.

I guess Edmunds.com correspondents can now put the shopping bags away that they had to wear on their heads while driving this abortion
