I have big sunglasses.
They come in a ridiculously big, white case.
But should the ridiculously big, white case not be able to find a safe storage spot in a big car like the BMW 7 Series?
Won't fit in the center console. Won't fit in the door pocket. Will fit in the glovebox, but still nudges the case when I close the lid.

Welcome to German cars, where storage is an afterthought. My wife is always talking about how little storage there is for her various nick-nacks in the E63, then I remind her of the under-seat storage, but heck even those are small. I never really think about it in my car, but I don't store much of anything in my car.

Well, if you women want to keep wearing sunglasses that make you all look like you're about to start some arc welding project, I guess that's the price you have to pay.

@mercedesfan,
There are so many electronics crammed everywhere in German cars. Partly why they tend to weigh so much.
@Kelly,
I know BMWs in general have small bins, but does your sunglasses case really fit well in *any* car?

We shouldn't complain about the crappy cupholders in European cars. To Europeans, eating/drinking in a car is sacrilege. I remember eating McDonald's while driving through Germany and I got so many looks of disapproval (and outright horror) from people while I was happily munching away at my Big Mac.
You can see how far they've come in at least tolerating this distinctly American habit of dining on the go. I remember that European cars in the 1980s rarely had a cupholder, the 90s saw the beginning of the cupholder that held only a 12 oz can, and now the cupholders can typically hold a 44oz Big Gulp. Well at least a 20oz bottle anyway.
At any rate, Kelly, doesn't the new 7 have an integrated sunglasses holder? Though I do suppose with a sunglasses case that large you probably have the aforementioned arc welder goggles.

America's obsession with storing every little piece of junk in a car (food, cups, mugs, sunglasses cases) is the real problem here. I think European manufacturers should quit selling their luxury autos in the USA until American society re-evaluates its in-car priorities.

Europe has trains. We have interstates. We're going to spend more time in our cars, it's not hard to understand. If I wanted to travel like a European and go to the beach, I'd have to stuff all my towels and booze in some innocuous grocery bags or bible holders or something, drive to Flint, take a train to Port Huron, then walk or take a cab to the beach. It doesn't make sense for us. Sorry m8.
Big cars make sense in the U.S., as does in-car storage.

you can't put them in the center console, UNDER the smart phone holder?

i've noticed this too. my new audi, has probably an ok sized glove box, but it has this audi multimedia box in there so its probably 1/3 smaller than it should be.
the center bin storage is very small though, probably just enough to fit a wallet, a cellphone and say an mp3 player if you arrange them right (my last car was an acura tsx, and you could just dump whatever in its probably 3 times bigger center console storage, and it also had a lot of cubbies and such).
those are the thigns you live with on a german car.
The one thing i've noticed is at least mercedes and audi have put decent cup holders in their cars (at least the C class and a4/a5 anyway). Bmw still refuses to do this and they still have that garbage pop out thing that looks like itll break all the time. i know someone is going to say "you are supposed to drive the car, yada yada, not drink sodas in it" but in reality 99% of people who buy any car, sit in traffic with a drink a lot.

I absolutely HATE those huge women's sunglasses. One of the worst fashion trends ever created. Unless you're ugly, why would you want to cover half of your face with giant bug eyed sunglasses? The worst part is, it seems the prettiest women wear the biggest sunglasses. I hope this fad dies very soon. It looks like it is.

As I think PDXLager tried to point out. Lift the phone cradle in the center console as there is storage space underneath it.
drhorrible says:

There is additional storage in the rear center arm rest.

Why is it that women want to wear those ridiculously large sunglasses is beyond me. And why is it that every woman NEEDS to carry a ton of stuff in their handbags? I don't even know what my wife carries in her bag, but it's darn heavy!
My advice Kelly, dump those stupid sunglasses. They never make any girl look good.

I'm sure BMW would gladly sell you a cargo organizer to secure them in the trunk for $8999.95.
sorry, couldn't help it.
wait, better idea - make some kind of container/storage device out of the shredded rubber carcass of one of your myriad destroyed goodyears.

@ptcdawg
A car is POS if it can not handle an abnormally sized glass case? So I guess I understand where your priorities are when evaluating a car.
And yes I do own a 7 series but it's an 06 so maybe they made them better back then.
PDXLager says:
01:16 PM, 03/16/10
It should fit in the center console, under the smart phone/iPhone holder thing.
cr_driver says:

Is this a problem of this car or a problem of the BIG sunglasses? Who`s to fault here?
Besides the well know german cars compromises.
Try it out in other cars and see what happens.....

That sunglasses case looks like something Maximus would have thrown to maim another gladiator. If you open it slightly and blow will it sound like blowing through a conch shell?
No really, zcalvert had a very funny response.
