For $60,000 I expect to get some redundancy out of a car. The fact that I know that track three is Jusiamere Farm off the album Howls From the Hills is besides the point - I want the car, this $60k German uber-coupe, to tell me that too. Hell, for that price, I want the album artwork ghosted behind the text as well.
Normally I wouldn't even notice the lack of album information but I played this same CD in our Challenger earlier this week and it gave me all the information, track names, album title and artist.
So I guess the Dodge is more advanced than the Audi...

I don't even seen the need for a stereo in a car like the S5.
Can you imagine how much more affordable cars like the S5 and M3 would be if the entire stereo/navi had a delete option?

There should be an option in the settings to display CD text. In my A6 you just push the setup button while at the CD screen and you can adjust such options. Then the CD text comes up perfectly!

Yeah!
Delete CD changer, delete navi, delete traction control, delete all other modes but M-mode...Talk about driving the dream!
Of course, this would probably result in ball-dippingly lucrative class action suits by the litigation-reliant family members of people who ended up being scraped off the asphalt with a spatula; or plucked, piece by piece, from arboreal medians.
It's not the lawyers who've ruined the world for the rest of us; but their clients.

lowmilelude, very few would actually buy a car like this with all those features deleted. They're there because the buyers (like me!) want them. I have an M3 coupe with virtually every option available, because I love all this stuff on my daily driver but I also don't want to give up the driving part either, that's why these cars cost so much!
There used to be an E46 Competition that stripped out some of the features and had other bits to lighten it up, but it didn't cost any less and it sold precious few copies in the U.S.

ROFL
How could any part of a Dodge be as good as a German car??? The horror!

Mikeolan should be cheering this. After all, the Challenger is far more advanced than the M3, so it stands to reason it is far more advanced than the Audi as well.

bimmerjay- I remember that model, referred to as the M3 CSL maybe? Not sure. At any rate, the vehicle was more expensive because it had a carbon fiber roof, etc. Items that are, IMO, unneccesary unless you're competitively racing the vehicle. In which case you've got sponsors who will sponsor your CF roof, lightened subframe, etc.
In the hands of you and I, hobbyist weekend warriors at best; the M3 at absolute zero (accessories, that is) wouldn't handle any differently than the CSL. M3 hardtops hold their value better than M3 convertibles for a simple reason - they're better.
If BMW was really interested in testing their brand, they'd offer a stripped out M3 in the price range of a brand new STi/Evo, Camaro SS, or Corvette. Then the sparks would REALLY fly.

Darn right I'm applauding it.
At one time Chrysler was the most innovative automaker in the world. Mercedes pillaged a lot of their talent but the Challenger is proof positive not everything was lost. And I still stand by it- the V8 in the Challenger is superior in every way to the V8 in the M3.
That Chrysler figured out a better media interface is no surprise.

It isn't superior. Just different.

I would never even consider buying a car without a 12+ speaker sound system and navigation. I want luxury along with performance and I am sure I am not in the minority...

...which is one of the reasons I got the moonroof instead of the carbon fibre roof. I doubted my non-tracked M3 would feel much different. I'm not sure I agree on the coupe vs vert resale though.

It would cost BMW money to strip out the M3. Then to charge a lower price for it just to pick up a couple hundred sales wouldn't be worth it. In fact there is a stripped-out E92 M3 available in Europe called the GTS, but it's much more expensive lol.

Maybe the Audi system doesn't care for stoner rock music..........
(And by the way - don't ever do Audi the disservice of mentioning them in the same name with an auto manufacturer like Dodge....)

I want to smoke whatever Mike Olean has been smoking.
Next he's going to say the Charger V8 is better than the Z06 V8 or the AMG 6.2L V8, or even the Gallardo/R8 V8.

It says 'Audio CD'. Does this CD really contain extended audio / title info? Older CD's typically don't contain this info. I assume the S5 would show text for data CD's (MP3/WMA).
lucien4 says:

Never mind see now 'same CD'. It's great Dodge has it but I can see support for this is limited as nowadays most people use data CD's and flash memory.

Question: Is the album art visible in the current nav system or is that just in the 2011 A8???
