If you're successfully able to get into our Z06's trunk, this is the strange sight you will see. The Z06 and all similarly bodied C5's feature this weird combination of Corvette hatchback coupe and convertible body style. You get the drop-top's traditional trunk lid, but then you have most of the hatchback's expansive space accessible from the passenger compartment. Weird, right?

Do you think maybe - just MAYBE - one of these years we just might get to hear about what it's like to DRIVE this car?
I'm just sayin'. That would be nice.

Aaagh!!! We don't care about the trunk!
Drive it!
Test it!
Why else did you buy it?

I'm sorry to pile on, but I agree - isn't there anything you guys could post about driving the car?
Looking through the archives, I see a post from Oldham dated 2/20 that contains a sentence saying the car is a blast to drive. That post is primarily about ditching the heads up display.
Surely someone on the staff has opinions about driving the car. Right?

Agreed with the piling on above me. Go drive the thing, and don't come back until you have a good solid speeding or exhibition of speed ticket to report on.

Why drive it when something else will break or fail and cost them more money? Post about the Miata....it is far more interesting and probably will be more reliable with 3X as many miles.
"one of these years we just might get to hear about what it's like to DRIVE this car?"
Does anybody really not know what a Corvette is like to drive??? really? What is the point is talking about that? It was far more telling dealing with the pinging issue. Here is what the Vette is like for those of you that dont know.......it is a blast to drive (when it runs correctly) it is expensive to insure......not put together very well.....has terrible seats...looks really nice and is not that practical in day to day use for most folks. My family has had 4 vettes since 1971.....they are the same then as they are now.....Corvettes are like boats (its namesake).....the two happiest days in a Vette owners life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it.......

I love it when Ford fans get their feathers ruffled over the Corvette and the reminder that Ford hasn't been able to maintain a solid competitor to it.

Guys, they can't track test the Z06. They're spending all their track time showing us how to stop a Toyota.
Priorities people!

@bodyblue.....
You have obviously never personally owned a C5 or C6 Corvette.
I had a C6 Vette as a daily driver for two years. That's right...as my ONLY car....GASP!!!
I modded the hell out of the thing and took it to the track all the time. Nothing broke or malfunctioned!!! Hell, the seats never bothered me either, I never figured out why people complained about them so much.
You cannot touch the performance of the C5 or C6 for the similar money....period!!!
I traded it in for a new CTS-V...I wanted a back seat so I could drive my co-workers to lunch on Fridays. ;-)

Let's see, I was 28 when I bought a brand new 2004 convertible and my insurance for the year was less than $700.00. Sounds pretty expensive for a (at the time) $55,000.00 sports car, eh? Oh, and when I bought my 505hp Z-06 and my insurance went down, that must have been a fluke since these god awful cars are so expensive to insure. And as far reliability, I have had three Corvettes since 2001 and never spent a dime on anything other than routine maint. with no warranty repairs to speak of. Guess that's what happens when they aren't put together very well. All of that and almost 30 mpg on the highway on a trip in terrible seats.

Good grief - bodyblue is still trolling? He (it?) must really, really bored. Don't feed the trolls. In other words, ignore him (it?) - he says stupid things to try to stir people up. Don't waste your time reading or replying to his idiotic posts.

could you please talk about some other inane detail to this car?
Suggestions:
Glove compartment
Rear seats
radio reception
Checking the oil
Parking at Trader Joes
(sarcasm)
Take it to the track and beat the snot out of it, then get back to us!

You can knock a Corvette for its poor interior quality and relatively poor steering feedback, but reliability is pretty stellar.
I've owned 2 C6s (currently a Z06) the past 4 years and have had 1 issue: a power steering pump leak that was probably caused by my own negligence (slightly overfilling the PS fluid). Otherwise, it's been perfect. I beat on it at the track every month with no issues. Oil is your garden-variety Mobil 1 available for $4 to $5 per quart at Walmart. Transmission fluid is less than $10 a quart. How much for GT-R transmission fluid? Rotors are dirt cheap, even on a Z06. $360 for a set of 4. That probably wouldn't even buy you one rotor on a GT-R or 911.
With that said, I'm a car enthusiast and would love to own a GT-R, 911, M3, someday. However, I'd be a lot more scared of the upkeep costs associated with them than a Corvette.

I'll go against the flow and say this post was somewhat interesting. I think trunk space is one of those factors that will matter if you're considering a used Z06 as a daily driver. It might have been more informative though if you had showed how many suitcases or grocery bags you could stuff into there.
That said, it wouldn't hurt to talk about how the car drives after all these years, especially as compared against the newer sports cars that have emerged in the $40k and under range (370z, 135i, STI/Evo, etc.)

Reliability with performance cars is usually a crapshoot. Every owner of every sports car has horror stories of trannies puking, clutches failing, etc. No manufacturer escapes this. Cars are complicated machines, with a lot of moving parts, and a lot could go wrong.

I was waiting for you to appear. God forbid anybody say anything bad about a car you own.....you get your panties in a twist and get personal. I and my family have not owned a vette since the 90's. so several of you have got me there. I never said they were not fun to drive and ride in. If a 28 year old only pays 700$ a year for insurance that is a most probably a lie. Stinky thinks that JD Power is the only thing that matters and that the thousands of people that CR surveys just hate GM........you can believe what you want.
"I had a C6 Vette as a daily driver for two years. That's right...as my ONLY car....GASP!!!"
How many kids do you have? uh huh
Stingray just get over yourself....again talking about a car you own does not mean somebody is attacking you personally. If you are that attached to a car you need some serious medical help. Vettes are fun, exciting, and everything else I said above, so if you cant see that or cant stand reading such things, cry somewhere else, you bore me.
