I've only driven our long-term 2010 Volvo XC60 a handful of times, and everytime I climb in the cabin, I'm still overwhelmed by the variety of materials used to create this polychromatic experience.
This morning I counted six different materials. And not just in a variety of colors, but all different textures as well.
I don't hate the unusual combination, but there's something to be said about classic black-on-black as well.

I, for one, like to see more daring interiors and customization. I like black on black and that's what I have, but choices are sweet.

I like the XC60's interior. You could always get it in black on black, but I like this color combination better.

Classic black on black is boring if you've been driving cars for almost 40 years. Actually, if you go back to cars made in the 50s and 60s, they had more interior textures and colors. Safety regs from the 70s onwards and cost reduction pressures made interiors more boring. But now, car manufacturers are finding they have to bring back more interior styling to differentiate their cars.

You could get colored interiors up until about 10 years ago. But analysts said it cost too much to offer so many choices, so now everybody's like Honda, half a dozen exterior colors--most of them shades of grey; and one or maybe two neutral interior colors.
I find a black interior depressing and cavelike--a somewhat better alternative to the mustard-toned "beige" also on offer in my current car, but I miss the multitone blue interiors I had in my previous three cars.

I find a all black interior justs feels special to me.
Tan on the other hand reminds me of every cheap rough running rental car I have ever been in.

I really like colorful interiors. Back in the day my parents had a GMC conversion van with a burgundy interior with faux wood accents everywhere. It was awesome.

Looks like Ikea.

I really like the lighter interiors. My last A4 had an all black interior and my new one has a two tone tan and it makes the interior feel much larger.

There is nothing good to be said about classic black on black....BARF almost as bad as todays gray interiors. I miss dark and light blue and red interiors and yes even the dark brown I had on my 1985 Grand Marquis LS .....it was a super soft dark brown velor ......and it was a knock out. I love the volvos inside and outside color.....it is not like the rest of the lemmings in their dark gray blobs.

Light interior look "richer". When was the last time you've seen a black on black interior in a Rolls Royce or Bentley?? Light leather also ages better, cracks and wear spots are not as visible as they are on all-blacks.
That said, I'm not a big fan of this Volvo interior, looks too much like the cheap crap that IKEA sells..

I love light and contrasty interiors. Black on black is just too drab.
That being said, I am getting quite annoyed by the painstaking cleaning light interiors require. After owning a beige interior and a light-ish gray one, I'm just about done keeping them clean. Both require frequent scrubbing to be in good shape.
I just shudder every time I see really light beige. They sure look beautiful in showrooms, but I'm afraid my next car will have black interior.
Silver exterior + black interior = detailer's dream
Black ext + beige interior = nightmare.

....Add to that the odd colors of the LV handbag on the passenger seat and and things really start to look unpleasant....

I hate black on black.
The XC60 interior looks very cozy.

Regardless which preference you have, the problem I noticed with lighter leather colors is that they accumulate stains pretty quickly. Maybe it depends on type of leather but I saw often blue stripes on beige interiors.
