Ever wonder what the mix is for new Camaros moving off dealer lots? Well, I noticed a post on a Camaro forum that gave a link to a database site that tracks Camaros being sold and gives you the ability to filter for a variety of parameters. There seems to be some disagreement among forum posters about how truly accurate the information is, but it's certainly better than nothing.
I was interested to learn how many 2010 Camaros are like our long-term car, which is to say Camaros with the V8 and the manual transmission. The results:
Percentage of 2010 Camaros sold with the SS trim (V8): 61 percent
Percentage of those Camaro SS models with the manual transmission: 46 percent
I was a little surprised; I would have guessed lower percentages for both. Another way to look at it would be: a little more than one out of four Camaros sold is the V8/manual combination.

I'm not surprised by those numbers as the majority of the cars on the street right now were pre-ordered.

That's refreshing to see such a high percentage of MT's. I'm sure that number will decrease once the enthusiasts have snagged theirs and the sales shift to base V6 automatics with cloth (zzzzzz), but still it's cool to see.

Interesting how I've seen more than one review from other sources say they like the V6-manual combo better than the V8 because it a lot better balance and is still a blast to drive with its 300+ HP. It'd be interesting to see a breakdown of how many V6s are sold with a stick though; I bet it'd be pretty low.

I test drove a base V6 automatic with cloth. It still pulls well when you wood it, just like the CTS.

^^I would think the V6 base model would offer pretty darn good value and spirited performance. For a car that looks like a concept, that's an unbeatable combination. Plus, this car is limited by its handling before any horsepower deficit would be noticed. You could pocket the considerable change and put it where the car needs it.
Maybe you could also cut the roof pillars, add metal for increased green house! Sort of a reverse chop...

lmbvette is correct.
A lot of the 1st cars are pre ordered which means people are still getting what they what. Soon however you'll be stuck getting what the sales manager ordered and they order with profit in mind, not the driver.
Most people do not want to wait for a car when they can have one right now so they will take the automatic even if they would rather have a manual.

I wonder what percent have ordered the V6 with a MT.
What is with all the black interiors? It doesn't look like a cave enough without trying to further drown any light in the car? Geez.
I don't know if preferring that combo makes me a chick, and it would have been very hard to ignore the V8, but I think that V6 would have been just fine.

I have to admit that with pony cars like the Camaro or the Mustang I would only buy a V8 pony car and if you gave me for free a V6 model I will take it sell it and get a V8 model.
Anything less than V8 is IMHO a insult to the pedigree.

Whats your definition of that "pedigree"?
