I've been down this road before. Frustrated with the triple turn signal on our long term BMW 330i a few years ago, I was chastised for not reading the manual (Does anyone? Should anyone have to?). There, I was told, I would have discovered that the triple turn signal feature can be disabled.
My diatribe on why this is a pointless, useless and utterly infuriating feature (which I still believe), can be found here should you care.
Fortunately, on the 750i, disabling this nuisance is only a few clicks away. I turned it off.

Interesting. I had the 3-blink feature enabled on my Mazda 6. I like it. But, our traffice paterns where I live are much more livable.

Since mine blinks until I turn it off I guess I don't understand the concept of a triple blinker or double for that matter.

The "one touch, three blinks" feature is one of the only things I'll miss about my Audi when I get my Flex.

I LOVE the triple signal in my 135. I had RTFM to find out how to turn it ON!

I too like this feature - it was in our recently departed 328 and is now in our newly arrived 128.

Its a German thing- I know VW has it - dont know about MB - Love it on my 528i.
Why are the DRL's not activated?

Have to agree... the 3-flash feature on my MINI Cooper is very useful. Why more don't cars have it as an option and why some people hate it so much is beyond me. Read the damn manual if you don't like it.
I've never had anybody cut me off or flash at me for the auto 3-flash signal driving in Toronto. People are gonna cut you off no matter how you signal. :)
What annoys me is when I take the MINI into the dealership, sometimes all settings are set back to default and I have to navigate that damn MINI menu system to turn the 3-flash back ON. grrr.

The first time I experienced the triple turn signal was when I rented a VW in Belgium- I loved it. And when I found out my Mazda 6s GT had it as a preference I got it turned on immediately. Still love it. The only criticism I have is that quad turn would seem a little better since it seems to fall once blink short by the time I switch lanes.

The LT Silverado did it and I bet the LT Ram does it too. Some of the other current LT cars most likely also do it. Why the hate of it in this particular model? I find it really useful.

Sign me up as one of the people who love this feature, and I live in a traffic-congested area. I don't know about you, but when I signal I am already beginning my lane change (as Josh said doing it in advance only causes the inattentive driver you are passing to speed up). Because of this, three blinks makes sense because that is about the amount of time it takes to fully complete the lane change. It's not necessary, but a convenience I like anyway.
@speedynk- MB started offering it in '97 I believe, it didn't become uniform across the board until 2002, though.

"In Los Angeles, where the turn signal is viewed as a sign of weakness, three flashes is simply one too many. Flashing three times is asking for someone to close the door on the tiny gap you've spotted."
Just another reason to LEAVE. L. A. I believe this topic has been covered extensively on LTRTB.
Where I live, the turn signal is like your Grandma saying "Oh, bless your heart!" when what she really means "I'm coming over into your lane, whether you like it or not; and you're gonna like it, damn it!"

My thing is three flashes for lane changes, five for leaving a roadway. (when not stopping)
I agree with lowmile that often a signal is used as force, lol

i'm going to be the rare commenter who is going to agree with this. i just bought an audi and it has this "feature" and i hate it.
i hate all these type of non instantaneous things though. i mean i turn all the transitions and fading effects off on my computer too. things should go as fast as they can when i push them and turn off when i push them.
there should be no delay!!!
this post just reminded me to go through the audi mmi and turn it off (i just bought the car 2 weeks ago)

This is a silly complaint. You can either click the turn signal all the way down and use it like you would in any other car, or hold it momentarily for the desired number of flashes, like any other car. It just happens to offer a convenience feature in addition to functionality that is the same as any other car. If you want one flash, hold it in the one-touch position until the one flash is complete, then let go. Same works for two, three, or however many you want. I believe this works in all current BMWs and MINIs, but I could be wrong.
I do appreciate that it is customizable, but I see no situation where it is appropriate to use a turn signal but one flash is adequate. You know what kind of people are on the road, so the more you signal, the better.

When I'm driving my non Audi, I miss all of its little German-ie features.
Here is a small list of things that I can't stand not having in my non Audi.
-3 blink signal
-passenger side mirror lowering when car is in reverse.
-putting all windows down when outside of vehicle with a twist of the key. Nice in the summer when car is baking in the sun.
-Power folding side mirrors
-one touch up and down for all 4 windows.
-good xenon headlamps

nealibob said it all. The clicker can be used in the same fashion as any other car. The fact that you can customize it is even better. Also, this is the case on all BMW's like mentioned before.

As a "road test editor", isn't it your responsibility, before writing a review, to be informed of how the features of a car should work? The triple blink setting is one of my favorite features on my 550i, and if a driver chooses not to use it, it can simply be turned off. If you cant figure out how to cancel a turn signal or turn off a setting in iDrive, are you really qualified to review a car?

The triple turn signal is one of my most loved feature in my Audi. It's perfect for quick lane changes! How you hate such a convenient feature is beyond me. I get that maybe you're not used to german cars. Maybe you should continue driving domestics. My previous BMWs and Mercs had the feature too.
nealibob says:

I have to correct my previous comment. Holding the signal past the first flash but releasing it before the second flash does not give you a single flash in my 2007 335i. Maybe it does that in other models. Anyway, that is probably how it should work, as it would probably make just about everyone happy that way. :)

Uhh... yes, Josh, everyone should RTFM. I cannot imagine why people who either review or purchase any vehicle these days don't -- or won't -- do it.

I'm a big fan of the "push once for 3 flashes" feature. I had it activated on my Mazda 3 and I use it all the time in my '07 Corvette and my wife's '09 Enclave as well...

Should anyone read the owners manual? Of course! As enthusiasts. we can get in most cars and figure everything out. But on a car like the 750 or anything that has an MMI interface, I would read the owners manual for fun... and to figure out what everything does and how to make the car how I want it.
Are cars becoming too complicated? Maybe. But not reading the owners manual and then complaining doesn't make much sense either.
I personally like the 3 flash signals
