2009 Audi S5: Does Riswick Fit?

Riswick in the back of the S5

Nope, not especially. Even though I sit relatively close to the wheel in the S5, I had to flip the seat forward to cram my legs in place. I also have to lean forward, crane my head to the side or a bit of both (picture) for my noggin to fit. So a 6-foot-3 person can technically sit behind themselves, but they wouldn't want to.

Still, it's far better than the Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe (especially headroom), considerably better than the Camaro (including seat comfort), about even with the 135i and much worse than the Dodge Challenger. So on the Riswickmeter of backseat space, the S5 can fit 0.84 Riswicks.

I like the riswickmeter.
But how about the romans meter, something like a 5 foot 10 person? More like an average person?
Shorter than that probably will fit nicely in about every car, right?

Clearly your parents didn't shove you into the back of an economy car when you were growing up. Here are the rules of smashing yourself into a backseat meant for a spider monkey:

1) Widen those legs. You need to basically be humping the seat. Yoga helps.
2) You gotta have terrible seating posture, otherwise it's gonna be uncomfortable. You're not at a board meeting, you're in the backseat of a coupe. Slouching is key. The more slouch, the more comfortable.

Look, fighter jets have strict limitations on pilot dimensions. Apparently, coupes have similar packaging challenges. Most fighter pilots are 5'10" or less, and that probably is a good rule of thumb for backseat passengers.

Ask them, "Could you land a bird on a flat top in 20-foot seas? Didn't think so, Hightower. You're riding shotgun."

Rear seat of a V8 powered coupe (like dad's '70 Camaro SS) is uncomfortable and loud. But as a kid, no better place to be seen by your friends riding in their mom's Country Squire wagon.

I would not want to sit in the back of my 135, not even for a short trip. And I'm only 5'10".

ps you look very Chris Isaak-y, especially with the forlorn expression...

Please post pics of you in the back seat of the Challenger and the Camaro, all on the same page, so we can see the comparison.
TIA!

Ooops, never mind! I just noticed the links...

@jederino

One of the funniest comments I have seen in a long time.

Well, I too don't want to fall in love.

I would like to see Riz in the back of the Mini E.

It reminds me of Letterman's "Will it float"... "Will Riz fit"

That looks like more than 0.84!

As one who measures in at around 6'4 - I feel your pain. How bad has flying coach for any length of time become?

All of the pics could be captioned "The Plight of The Tall Man" - you are clearly uncomfortable and disgruntled in all of the photos - a bit of an angry at the world expression. Funny.

Have to note that the Challenger doesn't look too bad. And, from a standpoint of aesthetics, it's a pretty good looking backseat. I don't care for the dash, IP, or wheel in the Challenger but I do like it from the shifter back.

just out of curiosity, why did you have a costume change for every one of the other backseat pictures??

@bkochuck,

Those shots weren't made on the same day... mostly if you notice the dates on each of those blog posts.

Even though I will most likely not find myself in the back of my S5, if/when I get it, I do have some tall co-workers and they would have to fight over who gets shotgun and who will have to pull is a Rissie in the back.

Speaking of tight fits, I'm only 5'9", but I found the rear quarters of my friend's new A4 sedan very tight. He's only 6 feet tall himself, and I practically fell out of the car trying to extract myself. I hit my head on the door sill once, too. Not fun. I would not, however, have minded it so much were I stuffed back there with a Chris Isaak-y James Riswick :)
