2009 Dodge Ram 1500: Coverage

extendablevisors.jpg

During the several long drives my lady and I took around the Southland and up to San Francisco in the last two weeks in our long term Ram, I was so very thankful for extendable visors.

It may seem like a little thing, but with a large amount of glass comes a big exposure to glare. That annoying kind of glare you get while driving for hours and hours, burning your retinas and making your drive miserable. Being able to cover that windshield corner and the bit near the B pillar are major aggravating relievers.

I'm a big fan of good visors... especially this time of year. With the sun so low in the sky all day long, it's forever in my eyes. Little things like well designed visors go a long way.

Visors are incredibly annoying in my opinion, and I've never understoos why people love them. I wish they made sun visors that were tinted glass or plastic, because every time I use the visor on my side, regardless of vehicle, it's directly in my field of vision so I can't see a thing. It's like driving with a blindfold. At least the blue strip on top of the windshield helps slightly when driving towards the sun.

Similar situation turning it towards a side window, either visor. Then I can't see out that respective window.

In this picture, though, it actually looks like it would do its job well. It's just covering up the very top of the window and not half of it.

I was really annoyed with the visors on my Jeep Patriot. They just didn't seem big enough to cover the side window when the sun was on that side of the car. I drove around for 4 months thinking Chrysler had designed the stupidest car ever. Imagine my surprise (and embarrassment) when I discovered that it had the same extend feature as the Dodge. Thanks Inside Line!

This is the kind of simple, cheap and effective feature that ALL cars should have.

As someone who is vertically gifted (as opposed to challenged) my seat is generally all the way back and it is the rare car that has a visor long enough to keep me from being stabbed in the side of my eye by the rising or setting sun.

I've owned mine since 4-2009 and just last week had someone tell me how the visor extends. I guess I'll have to reread the 541 page owners manual to gloss over the things I missed the first time.
