2008 Pontiac G8 GT: Nationwide Inventory is 111 -- and Dropping

2008_pontiac_g8_sandiego.jpg

If you've been wanting a Pontiac G8 with a V8, either a GT like ours or a more desirable GXP, the pickings are getting slim.

A quick search on AutoTrader reveals only 111 V8-equipped G8s still exist in dealership new-car inventory nationwide. By the time, this blog entry publishes, it likely will have shrunk further. Will this near-term scarcity translate to long-term collectibility?

Oh, and if you're content to drive around in a ho-hum V6-equipped G8, well, there are apparently still 145 of those for the taking.

I'm still hoping for an announcement of a Chevy version once they sell out all the remaining stock on the G8's. I'm loving my 09 G8 GT and I'm dreading the day I will have to replace it. Hopefully they will have a chevy replacement in place by then. But until then, I'm thankful that my commute dropped by 75% and my annual mileage will be so much less that hopefully this car will last me a good number of years more than my past cars.

The G8 is gone. Let it go.

But can't imagine that any car sold
in the numbers I've read for the G8 GT
will be 'collectible' anytime soon....

Just my opinion...

AutoTrader won't list every G8 in inventory. I don't know what percentage of dealers pay to be on the site, but it wouldn't be 100%.

Saab 9-3s are apparently in short supply now as well.

Lets face it, very few people are going to lament the end of the G8. If it really had a following Pontiac would have sold more of them. I've driven one and enjoyed it. I found it to be a competent, powerful sport sedan but nothing special. There wasn't anything special in the whole Pontiac line, it's not surprising the line was eliminated.

The GXP's were all spoken for long ago. The collectors were all over 'em.

These sites that list new car inventory need to be taken with a grain of salt. When I seached Cars.com, 70 GT's should up, but some were used, some were 08's, and some were base models.

The most accurate search would be by zip code on gm.com. But even there, it is not accurate, as when I was looking to buy a G8 GT last year, I searched for an 08 hoping to get a better deal. Several came back as demos, and were actually higher than an 09 that I ended up purchasing.

@anthonylam66

If the G8 GT was nothing special, would you please enlighten us here on what RWD vehicle offers the same amount of performance, room and style for less than $30K.

The Commodore series was the best selling car line in Austraila last year.

It didn't sell well in the US because 1. When introduced gas went to $4.00 per gallon. 2. GM spent almost no money marketing it.

And I guess you consider the Soltice GXP convertible and coupe nothing special, nor the G6 Convertible.

"And I guess you consider the Soltice GXP convertible and coupe nothing special, nor the G6 Convertible."

No they're definitely not special. The Solstice was a half-baked car (good riddance) even in high-po GXP form and the G6 convertible may be unique as a relatively low-priced retractable hardtop, but it's still a G6. Which is not a good thing.

Yeah, the G8 was the only great product from Pontiac in years.

Give us a final update on the final G8 sale and the "lucky buyer" who takes home the booby prize. The last great American sedan...just off the boat from Australia.
