2007 Honda Civic GX: What's the Code, Kenneth?

civicgx 001.jpg

Seems our radio in our 2007 Honda Civic GX is broken. This error message was already on when I got into the car the day before but I wanted to check the long-term blogs to see if anyone mentioned it. No one did.

In any case the satellite radio doesn't work, neither does the CD player or the radio. I looked it up in the owner's manual since this thing seems to be asking for a code but the manual doesn't say anything about a special code or this issue. However, when I Googled it, I came across this: https://radio-navicode.honda.com/

Not sure how this happened in the first place but apparently the anti-theft light turns on when you replace the battery. Although I don't think anyone did that over the weekend.

POST EDIT: OK, that Web site didn't recognize the VIN but I did finally find a card with the code on it in the owner's package located in the glovebox. So that's fixed. Yay.

Is it just me, or does this scenario go down ALL THE TIME at the LTRTB? What about accountability, don't you guys have to sign these vehicles out?

"Got in the Camaro today, and someone had scratched "KURT RULZ UR AZZ" into the dash. Searched to see if anyone had mentioned it in previous posts...."

"Opened the door to the 7-Series this afternoon, and the stench of warm vomit and cheap gin wafted out. Tried to see if there were any previous posts on this...."

"Got up this morning and found the new(old) Z06 wrapped around a tree. Don't remember seeing it that way the last time I drove it, so I looked through the blog for..."

I looked in the blogs to make sure that this wasn't an issue that someone already brought up to the Mikes, vehicle testing guys in charge of the keys, as they often get bugged about the same issue. "Hey, the steering wheel of that car X is shuddering..." "Yeah, we're already on it."
"The maintenance light of this car is on." "Yeah, we already scheduled a service appointment."

I'm just surprised that the person who had the car before me, ahem Warren, didn't mention it.

I do believe the "frequency' was requested from Kenneth and not the "code" but I guess since I'm the only one you got the reference it will stand.

charlesb,
Yeah, it was a play on that phrase.

Er, I got it too. In fact the album Monster might be in my car at the moment.

In any case, R.E.M reference approved.

Alright people, this is a Honda and you are in LA. Your story is completely wrong. Obviously what really happened is some chop shop mistakenly stole your GX and realized it had all sorts of explosives waiting to detonate upon strippage *after* they removed the battery. Fortunately they replaced the battery and put the car back into the same place before anyone noticed the car was missing.

Nice save, GX, nice save.

I absolutely hated working on Honda and Acura vehicles when I used to work in a shop that does batteries as one of its main services. We usually put down the radio's settings and presets before replacing a battery then enter them when we complete the job. Imagine our frustration every time we have to deal with something from Honda...because we'd have to find the card with the code, and if it's not there, then we waste time going to that website. Honda is the only automaker who does this absolutely stupid "anti-theft" measure ever since the early 90s. Just do it like GM... have the radio unit automatically check to see it's in the right vehicle and be done with it. If it doesn't match, it's a paperweight. Simple as that.
