2010 Volvo XC60: What Does Brown Do For You?

2010 volvo xc60 front

While, like Erin, I do like the styling of the XC60, I have to say that I miss the old boxy Volvos of my youth. There was a 1970 Volvo coupe in my family (purchased by my then-single mom when she lived in Germany and brought to the States after she married my dad. It stayed in the family until 1990.) that pretty much sealed my boxy-Volvo-loving fate.

But I do have to say I love the warm, rich color of our Terra Bronze Metallic paint. It's subtle and attractive. Not too flashy, but worlds better than silver or charcoal or black would be. If I were going to buy an XC60, this would be the color I'd choose. What do you think of our brown crossover's color?

I have loved the brown cars for a while now. I looked at a 2003 Saab 9-5, and almost bought it in the Hazelnut Color, but then I bought a different car instead.

I looks great on the XC60, but it looks even better on the A4 Cabriolet in Dakar Beige, with the Camel Roof Color, and Camel Leather.

I also like it on the previous generation E-Class.

I have to say, I have different feelings on brown on BMW's. The Sepange (I may have spelled that wrong) Bronze on the M5/M6 is not very attractive - perhaps it's too watered down.

I love the Volvo's color...I am so sick of grey and silver...I like that earth tones are coming back. I also like Kia's Java color and the Smokey Brown on the Sportage.

i like it! My Subaru Legacy is a similar color! They call it Deep Bronze Metallic!

The only issue is that it shows every bit of salt and sand on the road during the winter. i drove home in the snow this past weekend and my car looks almost white now form the salt and sand! but you don't have to worry about that out in CA!

I like brown as well. And thanks for linking to the pic of the old Volvo. Reminds me of the yellow 144E my mother had when I was young. It was a great tank of a car!

Brown doesn't do it for me. It's boring and doesn't age well. In about a decade or so, people will then wonder what were we thinking at the time.

Brown is certainly a more anonymous color than red or yellow, but it gives me the impression of luxury without the staleness/popularity of black or silver.

Reminds me I have to go pick up some TP soon or I will have to use my cat... again...

Yup, love this color. In fact, back in July when we bought our XC60 we got the exact same color combo as this test vehicle: Terra Bronze exterior and Espresso Beige interior. Looks awesome, understated, Scandinavian luxury- which is what really Volvo as a brand is known for.

It's a little mauve-y for me, but yes far more interesting than despair grey or been-there black.

I like it. Very unique. By the way, what is the purpose of those little narrow lights on each side of the headlights in this photo?

I like it, too, if for no other reason than it seems that every other car on the road is silver, charcoal, or black.

On this car, brown looks good. However, on this 1979 Chevette, not so much:

Have any of you seen the "hazelnut" exterior with "cocoa" leather combo on a Porsche Cayman? Very distinctive, very handsome, and very different from the usual silver, black, and Guards Red offerings.

Personally, I love these modern shades of brown on cars with contrasting chrome. Buicks, Volvos, beautiful!

Brown, count me out! I'd take orange or even purple instead of brown.

Medium metallic blue is my favorite car color.

Leave the brown to UPS. Has there ever been a brown close to this shade that has aged well?
