Like every car in our Long Term fleet, our 2010 Volvo XC60 paid its dues upon entry with a trip to the track and a hearty flogging at the hands of our trained professional test drivers.
They chucked this 4,000+lb SUV through the slalom, around the skidpad and down the skidpad.

Acceleration Comments: No wheelspin. Makes best run first which likely means intercooler suffers heatsoak in these temps. Best run w/trac on, not that it matters.
Braking Comments: Softest brake pedal of the group, but still an excellent number.
Handling Comments: Skid pad: Non-defeat stability control. Heavy understeer. Stability control handles throttle admirably and instantly rather than exceeding tires' limits then heavily intervening. Slalom: Remarkably absent stability control intervention and, even when stab does step in, it corrects rather than punishes. Volvo is softest in this group but yields the best slalom number. Those are pretty good numbers for an SUV.

A shame Ford is selling Volvo...they make some nice products and for the past few years, really good looking products.

What comprises "this group"? Softest pedal feel compared to what other cars?

@orangutan
The only other car that comes to mind is the Flex.

@orangutan-
I'm pretty sure he means relative to the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLK. Possibly even the Lexus RX because I think it's similarly sized as well.

How smooth is the Volvo straight six motor compared to the one in the BMW?

I like the styling of this vehicle but like the Acura MDX I feel it's missing some detailing as it seems a bit naked. I can't exactly put my finger on it but it needs something.

I'm still holding my breath on Volvo. I thought for sure that Tata would be the death of Jaguar, and then they came out with the XFR. But that being said, Volvo is not Jaguar and Tata is not Geely.
Personally, I like the new xc60. I think it was a step in the right direction: producing unique cars with outstanding safety features...only this time they got it right with a decent engine and apparently not bad performance.
Next step, making the C30 more attractive by adding some fuel economy and AWD.
