2009 Honda Fit: Another Day in the Life of the Inside Line Truckster

honda_fit_toystore1.jpg

Over the weekend, I drove our 2009 Honda Fit to a toystore to buy a 20-inch bicycle for a 10-year-old. I purchased the bike unassembled and needed to load the box into the car.

Because the bike's manufacturer, Huffy, admonishes against laying the box flat, I had to find a way to keep it upright -- no easy task with the way I drive the subcompacts. Folding the "60" side of the rear seat flat accomplished this task beautifully. We wedged the box in, and it didn't budge an inch during 300 miles of driving over the next three days.

You were able to take that home without an SUV?!

I love those magic seats in the Fit, so versatile. It's amazing how many little hatches don't have flat folding seats.

You should have used a sedan. You could have just tossed it in the back seat and belted it in.

That's nice.
I'm sure it can carry a 65" TV like a Chevy Suburban then huh?
HUHHH????
Chevy Suburban. The only way to roll.

@billt9
I counter your Suburban with my Diesel Ford Excursion.

On topic why are you driving 300 miles to get a bike?

Oh wow..
I didn't know Chevy Traverse was competing sub-compact market with the Fit?

You can lay the box flat. They label it that way so stores don't stack them flat and bend the wheels/frame inside with all the weight.
As you know, stacking these boxes on end is much stronger.

By the looks of it, you also could've fit the box upright and straight in length-wise, but I know you wanted to keep the box from moving around. Also looks like you could've flipped the magic seats up and fit it upright the width of the car.

If may be safe to lay a bike box on it's side but don't cut furniture tags. It's a crime. For real you thought you couldn't lay the box down? Really?

I snagged an assembled 50"X50"X25" garden bench 1/2 off demo @ Lowe's & easily stuck it in the back of 09 Sport with fore/aft/overhead inches to spare.
