It hurts to sell a great car like our 2008 Pontiac G8 GT at this time of year. You can almost sense that the shoppers have their minds on other things. We even had one guy email us several times saying he wanted to buy it when it came up for sale. I contacted him but, alas, his employment situation had changed. That was probably code for "layoff."
Still, I'm sure a buyer is out there for this car which has been a big hit with our staff (in fact, we had so much fun with it we ran up 35,000 miles). The only question is what price the G8 will go for. Right now, we are at almost the full TMV price of $21,900. Check out our ad for our Pontiac G8 GT on Autotrader.com. And make an offer.

Twenty-two grand? I didn't even think they would be worth that much brand new, especially with all the rebates and incentives that GM dealers had.

ampim - thank you for reminding me (and the IL staff) of that. That was the best post I've seen on this page. Ever. I wonder how the rear tires are? I hope they finally fixed the brakes too, especially with the warranty running out REAL quick.

Have any of you alleged "CAR GUYS" ever considered cleaning the engine bay. IT'S FILTHY!
Don't pressure wash it, just wipe it down with a sponge & a rag. Don't forget to remove the engine cover & clean underneath it also.
I clean under the hood of my Civic every 7-10 days, only takes about 2 minutes at a time to keep it looking like new.

Most people will have the knee-jerk reaction of saying it's priced to high, when what they really mean is that THEY wouldn't buy it for that price, but someone might. Although I do think you'll have a hard time selling it at that price. I know GM employees that were driving new GT's off the lot for $23k.
Another way to look at it is that it's less than the cost of a GT-R tranny swap, but then again, so are a lot of cars.

You're probably right, I know a few people who would agree with you. But, old habits are hard to break!

I bought a used 09 G8GT back in June. The guy traded it in for a new G8GXP (wtf?). I had to drive 450 miles about to St Louis to get it. It was a heck of a deal so i had to scoop it up as fast as possible. It was a sport/premium had 601 miles on it. Zero rebates or anything total came to : 25,500. Not a bad deal IMHO. stickered for 34,800.
Funny story though, as i was sitting in the dealership for that 4 hour hassle of getting the paperwork in order, I was directly in view of the dealerships only G8 GXP they had left on the lot. A smallish asian woman and her boyfriend i presume where on the lot checking out all the G8s. They came across the GXP and seem very intrested. A salesman comes out and chats with them for a while and then runs off to get the keys for a test drive. I thought the guy would drive, but nope the tiny asian girl jumps into the drivers seat, this GXP was a manual, and i commented to the salesguy doing my paperwork, "oh man, I hope she knows how to drive stick and understands how much power that GXP has". The test drive salesman finally shows up with the keys and hands it to the woman though the open door. I guess he was pointing out various things to her because he decided to stand in the open door (maybe telling her to rev the engine? lol). Anyways I guess she thought the car was in neutral and she gave the engine a good rev, but the car wasnt in neutral at all....it was in reverse.... The GXP lurched backwards hard for about 4 feet, tires spinning and all, the salesman is knocked backwards by the open door and grabs hold of the car just in time to stop from falling. The woman as quickly as possible slammed on the brakes and the car rocked to a stop. I dont know if the salesman told her to or not, but she immediately turned the car off and got out, handing the keys back to the salesman. After a few laughs from everybody the woman and her man decided to go back and look at the GTs instead on the lot.

Your ad didn't state that Edmunds owned/abused the car...
Somebody may like that, others may be scared away.
I really really like my G8 -- "for the price paid." Have to add that qualifier.

When I bought my 09 in Febuary, 08 G8GT's were fetching about $21K to $22K. These were rental return units that had quite a bit of wear and tear. I remember looking at a used one at the dealer I ended up purchasing mine from, as they had just gotten a used one in, but it was in the shop. We strolled over and took a look and it was an Orange 2008 with 10K miles and no options. I noticed quite a bit of hail damage, and asked why it was in the shop, and the saleman said they were waiting for a part. When I asked what part they were waiting for, he said it was a motor mount, to which I replied, "This is a rental return, right?" and he confirmed that it was. In another words someone has been doing big time burnouts with every yahoo behind the wheel, because I have yet to hear of a problem with motor mounts in this car.
I then looked for new 2008's after the 2009's had been released, and with the poor situation of car sales, I was able to pick up a 2009 with the options I wanted, for less than $500 of what new 2008's were fetching. I made my decision based on reports that they were cutting the imports of G8's by over 80% and they later increased the list by about $1000. I got the premium package because I liked the butt warmers, and the sunroof, but passed on the Sport package. I told the salesman, why would I pay extra for tires that wear out faster and cost more to replace, and my feet don't have eyeballs, so I could care less for chrome on the pedals.
After 26,000 miles in 9 months, I don't regret the decision one bit.

Just a reminder:
If you [ or the new owner ]
acts quickly - before the 36,000 mile mark,
the B2B wty can be extended via GMPP,
at a fairly reasonable price, IMHO.
I would definitely consider this on a 2008.

2009 G8 GT w/B2B extended past 80,000 miles....

Shame you guys aren't keeping it. Considering it's got 35k on it already, it'd make a fabulous "long-haul" car for the fleet. I bet it's rock-solid reliable and would get 100k by year 4, max.
It's a shame, if the base GT was offered with a 6MT and Pontiac was still alive, I'd either be shopping one of these, buying one of these, or trying to talk my wife into one of these.
Between this and the BMW 550i, there's not many other choices of nice mid-size sedans with v8 power and glory and a good old 3rd pedal.

The cheapest '08 G8 GT I found within 200 miles on Autotrader was $21,900 and one at $21,995 even had 35K miles. There were 8 listed. Now that doesn't mean they're SELLING at that price, but the Edmunds listing isn't crazy or anything. Their car also appears to have 2 out of the 3 options available, only missing the sunroof. There could be other cars cheaper, but they likely don't have any options packages.
For the record, my LOADED new '09 G8 GT was $26.1K, including $395 worth of Motorola IHF1000 bluetooth kit installed. From the deals I spotted on the G8 forums, I didn't see anybody getting better deals than that except on cars with fewer options. Even then, it didn't seem to be that common. I thought it was funny, because even months later, I didn't see used '09s with 8-10K miles for that cheap. Heck, even some V6 models were listed higher than what I paid for my new GT.

It is a shame about Pontiac....the G8 seems to be a well built machine. If you like your G8 then what ever price you paid is well worth it.

I suspect it will take a no-reserve E-Bay auction to move this lump. Perhaps a nostalgic Pontiac groupie will come out of the wood work and make "your spirits bright" because your TMV-pricing sounds mighty high.

amen blue. It is a shame, but that is how the GM cookie crumbled. I bought my 08 in February with 9500 miles on it. Nothing wrong with it at over 21k now. The problems listed on this blog are minor too.

It is tempting but I have a G8 GT in Magnetic Grey. I can ask my Dad about it but he purchased a G8 GT in Liquid Red for himself (after test driving mine). I think that I may have to pass with two in the family already.

I really like the G8 and was looking at buying one; but with Pontiac dead and a Holden Chevy caprice not looking likely, the only source of parts would be from the police version if that ever comes to light. 5 years down the road how expensive is would this car be to maintain? Would parts have to be shipped here?
