Below are the fuel economy numbers for October 2009. We've listed the best, worst and overall average tanks.
As usual, a couple of cars are out on the road or unavailable at the time of this writing. I'll continue to add them as they come in and let you know in the comments.

Anyway we can get updates on the Prius, Edge, and RX400h?

I'm disappointed in the A4. i truly expected a lot more out of that 4 banger.
I'm with subaru123, do you still even have the Edge, Prius, and RX400?

Many of those "lowest MPG" tanks look to be the sort of thing you'd get after a day on the race track!
I'd say probably add at least 10%, probably 20%, to the Edmunds averages to get what you might realistically see, to account for the fact that A) these cars probably aren't broken in very well (they all get awful mileage and consume oil, whose fault is that?) and B) they're driven hard.
But what else is new?

Pretty amazing that the speed3 has even touched the 20 MPG mark what with that ruffian Jacquot harassing it around town

It's amazing how with all the technology out there, and the latest in engineering, most of the cars here only have average MPGs in the teens. Only three exceed 25 MPG, and those are all subcompact or compact.

Not bad on the G8, seeing how its treated. I normaly get 22 on the nose, my dads focus gets 25-27. Ill take the 5 mpg less for the fun factor. For as tall of a gearing on the Camaro it doesnt seem to help it that much. I know the testers here do not pay for gas but I expected it to beat the G8 :/

The eds wont say what happened to the Edge...I even sent a letter to them asking.....I guess they dont really care what we think.

Mileage of the Sx4, 370Z and XC60 are disappointing. IL chided the SRX for its real world mileage but the XC is doing even worse as a long term vehicle. Why is the Z averaging only 1mpg more than the V8 camaro?
bodyblue says:
06:33 AM, 11/ 3/09
good lord 1487, who cares if IL chided the SRX? Maybe they will chide the volvo when they have had it longer. The SRX is gone...get over it.

Looks like pushrods win the fuel efficiency wars again. Look at the fuel economy of the M3 and the Camaro SS. The Camaro SS has a much larger displacement V-8, more horsepower and torque, and the car is considerably heavier, yet it gets better fuel economy than the "hi tech" DOHC V-8 in the M3. I've seen this same result time and time again.
bodyblue says:

I think the Camaro's super tall gearing may have a lot to do with that. The pushrod mill in the Camaro is light years ahead of the small blocks of the '70s.

Yes sir! Any other directives?
The Z's efficiency is poor considering its very light. There is no way it should be that close to the Chevy in mileage- it weighs 600lbs less.

I'm surprised/impressed by the numbers for the Flex...

As an E90 M3 owner, I can attest to its lousy mileage.
But then if mileage is my concern I should be walking.
yellowmiata says:

1487 - Its not hard to get above the mileage numbers posted here in the Z ~ Not using the throttle as an off switch is a good start.
As for these numbers - I'd agree with clarkma5 that they seem like track numbers (or rental car numbers) rather than a true owner's mpg.
What amazes me is how poorly the M3 does relative to the GTR given the performance difference. Perhaps they're driven differently.
All this being said, I hope these cars are driven hard: why have a fun car and not wring it out?

@subaru123 makes you wonder why they keep those cars in their current list or vehicles if they never list them in these kinds of posts. Maybe they got stolen and the IL team just can't bring themselves to admit it?

I'm most impressed with the Genesis, given the power of the engine and the heft of the vehicle. Least impressive is a tie between the Mazda 6 and the SX4.

I'm curious to see the new A6 3.0T numbers. And was the A4 Avant quattro? If so, that would explain the low numbers.
