Actually the pedals themselves are fine. It's their spacing that's bugs me. Erin says she thinks they're perfect for heel-and-toe downshifting, but I can't agree. The gas pedal is a little far away to make a simple roll of the foot work. You have to do the full-on 45-degree foot turn to get a good stab at the gas. Hardly the worst pedal setup I've ever seen, but a little unexpected from a car that's so otherwise well sorted.

Small feet?

It would be a shame if they messed this up from the previous generation; the setup in the first-gen Speed3 and the Speed6 was perfectly spaced. I haven't driven the new one, though, so I can't speak to this one.

It's a car made for tiny people with big feet. I found the pedal spacing to be great in the 2008 MS3 I had, and it looks about the same here, but I am just too big for the car. I like the idea of sport seats, but I think that my next car needs to have non-sport seats, or at least a more subtle amount of bolster.

How big are Erin's feet and how big are yours Mr. Hellwig? I wear size 14.5 shoes and I cannot complain about the pedal spacing in my MS3. My feet do touch on occasion but that hardly the fault of the car. I also could never heal and toes for fear of getting my big feet twisted with the pedals. :-) Manufacturers have to go with the average, which I believe for men is a size 10 and woman maybe a size 8.

My 2007 MS3 is a little hard to heel-toe when I'm wearing my Piloti Turismsos, but I can adapt.

Eh... these look more spaced out than those of the previous gen MS3. See here:

I got bored waiting to see if I won an eBay Motors auction so I went out to my 2007 MS3 and measured the spacing between the brake pedal(or "break peddle" for those of you from Mazdas247.com) and the accelerator pedal. The distance from the right vertical edge of the brake pedal to the accelerator is 2 and 9/16 inches, while the measurement from the bottom right corner of the brake pedal to the accelerator is 3 inches.
Make of this what you will...
