2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS: Coolest Guy At School

camaro_parkinglot.jpgThe parking lot of my daughter's preschool/daycare is full of family-friendly vehicles at pickup and drop-off times -- you know, minivans, crossovers and such. So it was amusing to watch another dad's reaction yesterday as I pulled up for kid-pickup duty in the Camaro. He was walking across the lot when he spied me. The result was a double-take and then an envious stare as I drove by with the Camaro's V8 burbling away.

There's something to be said for school runs in a hot car.

I *almost* wish I had kept the STi for that reason. That was the car I brought my son home from the hospital in. :) (In fact, it may have been partly to blame for my wife's labor, lol.)

true,

but the most striking thing about that picture is how damn huge the camaro is.
height aside there's just no way a muscle/performance car should be as big as an suv or minivan... i understand the limitations to platform sharing, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Sure, but did you do a burnout as you pulled out onto the street? I mean if you're going to be the badass dad then be the badass dad. :)

zcalvert, check the size of the new Taurus, it is the same size, and just about as tall as a small crossover, new cars are getting crazy big!

That MPV's not too bad, really, if you have to have a minivan.

zcalvert, the new camaro is not that much bigger than a 69 camaro

Camaro Year: 1969/2010
Wheelbase (in.) 108/112.3 (+4%)

Length (in.) 186/190.4 (+2.3%)

Width (in.) 74/75.5 (+2%)

Height (in.) 51/54.2 (+6%)

Muscle cars have always been this big. The biggest difference is the height, and thats caused by big wheels and tires.

i understand they've always been big; and i'm not saying i really have a problem with the car in general.

but still, does it (or the challenger) really need to be so big. as long as you're chopping up platforms anyway, why not go for something a little more reasonable. i seriously doubt buyers of these cars really care about back seat or trunk space.

i don't really mean for this to sound so negative... it just jumped out at me how huge the car looked in relation to all those soccer mom suv's and minivans

I stopped by a dealership today to check out the plethora of Camaros they had sitting on the lot. One was identical almost to you LT car, except it was an auto instead of manual. All were SS's - 2 autos and 2 manual trannys. What was interesting however was each one had a "market value adjustment of $9,999. One Camaro on the lot was priced at $48,989!! I was astounded.

I had mainly stopped by because I wanted a better look at the interior and the gauge pod and the horrific steering wheel. After seeing it in so many pictures I wanted to see again for myself if they were as bad as the pictures and blogs make them out to be. But alas there wasn't a salesman in sight to open the door to one and I didn't feel like hunting one down. So I settled for looking through the windows, but I couldn't really tell much. The prices however really really took me back. With FOUR sitting on the lot, I couldn't believe the dealer had the gall to have a 10K markup on them.

You guys should have gotten black. So should have gotten black. The black just looks so cool. But the Silver one was okay looking too. But the least cool of the 4. The others there were a Red with a single stripe down the hood and the side stripes down the beltline and an orangish-red one with dual ralley stripes.

190" isn't that big. Its shorter than the Accord and Mazda6. Thats about average for a midsize car today.

The thought of leaving my office at the end of the work day and then having to drive one of those minivans home...
