2009 Nissan 370Z: How To Annoy a Perfectionist

370z 001.jpg

I know JDP already mentioned in a previous post how for some reason our 2009 Nissan 370Z has two different clocks that aren't even synced up but he didn't mention what a PITA it is figure out how to set the one on the dash on your own. It's just not as clear as the nav's clock which you can change through its screen. You'd think buttons for the dash clock would be located near it. But nope. So, oh noes, I had to go to the manual. Fortunately, though, once it's figured out, no big deal.

However, it IS a big deal trying to get the two clocks to display the same time. I guess you could time it by waiting til the other clock clicks on to the next minute before setting the clock but it will never be exact. And that's why it's irritating. If they weren't so close to each other it wouldn't be so annoying. As a previous commenter had suggested you could set the extra clock to reflect that of another time zone, Nurburgring perhaps. But still. This would bug me.

Can you turn off the clock in the Nav, maybe? You don't really need them both when they're that close together, it would seem...

How about removing the silly clock in the beautiful binnacle and putting something cool in. A track ready LCD that displays G-Force and lap times, like the A-Pillar wart on a Cobalt SS, except in a pretty package.

I guess the placement would not be completely functional, like the low gauges in the Camaro SS, but at the same time, it would like nice and have a pseudo function instead of just being redundant and only looking ok. It is a nice surround, but the clock looks like a waste.

Yes, it can be annoying, but with only 1-2% of 370Z's being sold with navigation it's not that big of a deal for anyone other than that select few that opt for the system. If you don't have Navigation, then all you have is that seperate clock, which is nice to have.

So, yeah, it's a pain but only if you pay for the Navigation.

bad nissian programing, setting one clock should set the other. Dont built in navs run 2+ grand? if your aren't paying for intergration, then what are you getting?

Heh, it didn't take me more than 18 seconds to figure out how to change the clock, though it can't be set while driving.

I would have preferred to see the temperature where the second clock is.

I guess I'm a little surprised that you would ever need to set the nav clock. I would have thought it gets set automatically through the gps signal.

If my $200 handheld can do it shouldn't a $1850 OEM option be able to as well?

The clock on the navigation screen is being updated by the GPS. It's the clock in the gauge cluster that requires manual tuning.

@japcola

3rd line, first paragraph.

Oh! Ok, the GPS unit does sync up the time, but it will not automatically do daylight savings time (wtf?), so you have to manually correct for DST.

All the more reason to skip the navigation system. I know where I'm going anyway.

Yah, nav is useful in maybe twice a month. My phone can take care of that. Once the software on the GPS is out of date - is there a way to update it?
