Last night, I got into the FX50 only to have my retinas attacked by a horde of super-bright gauges. I decided to remedy the situation by dimming the instrument panel. Given that this Infiniti is such a tech-laden beast, I expected this process to be unnecessarily complicated -- I expected to have to navigate a boatload of menus to get the job done.
Then I noticed that the controls for this function are right where you'd traditionally look to find them -- near the perimeter of the instrument panel. A couple of taps later, the brightness was dimmed and my retinas were safe from harm. Glad to see that Infiniti didn't deem it necessary to reinvent the wheel on this one.

the cool thing is if you go down to the lowest settings all the lights are totally blacked out. Awesome for night driving on a dark freeway!

even more cool when you turn ALL the lights off on a moon-lit night on, say, I-55 in Arkansas when there are no other cars around for like half-an-hour at a time

One of the few things I still like on my Mazdaspeed 3 are the separate IP dimmers for when the headlights are off and when they are on.

One irritating part of dimming the dash lights while driving at night is that when I need to dim them a whole lot (like traversing Nebraska in the middle of the night) I'd also want to use my brights. BUT the brights indicator comes on and amid all the darkness of the dash - that blue idiot light is horribly irritating. Has anyone else had this situation?
