While driving home last night I had to come to a rather sudden stop as some jerk flew into the lane in front of me from a driveway without looking, no turn signal, and no clue that there could be anyone else on the road.
Luckily, one of us was paying attention and the Hyundai Genesis has a good set of brakes and tires.
The disc brakes in the Genesis stopped the car quickly and the 18-inch Dunlops that came with the Premium package helped keep the car straight.
Of course, the mindless wonder didn't even notice that he almost caused an accident. He just continued on his merry way. Ignorance is bliss.

Today, I was driving and I started to cross an intersection. The Light just turned green for me, and a woman driving a Jeep Patriot decided to run it.
Practically stopping right in front of me, I did what every other driver would do, slam my horn at her.
Yet, she had the nerve to flick ME off.
What do you know! SHE WAS ON HER PHONE.
Seriously people, please get off your phone while driving. You can barely drive a car with both hands on the wheel. COME ON

Yeap, the combination of Traction Control, ABS, EBD & Brake Assisst along with meaty tires make for a confident stop in the Genesis.
remember folks, Hyundai has been putting similar setup STANDARD in a lowly Sonata since 2006 while Toyota/Honda didn't make them standard till 2007-2008!

Hearing how fast these newer cars can stop make me wish I had the extra $3200 for a big brake kit for my truck.

Remember, though, Hyundai still doesn't offer standard ABS on their Accent.
As much as I like Hyundai, it's hard to take any car company seriously when they say "we're concerned about your safety" and then make safety features optional or not available on some of their models to save people money. Which is why I'm glad stability control will be mandatory on all cars soon.
And adavis2493, I feel your pain.

Donna, That's what the horn is for. to wake up the clueless morons who pull out or change lanes without looking.

What's even more interesting is that they used to. The 2006 Accent debuted with standard ABS, but then they made it an option later.

And if I remember correctly, GM did the same thing to some of their 2003 models that used to have it standard in 2002.

While the 0-60 numbers is something I like to know what is really important to me is the 60-0 numbers. Glad to see the Genesis does well in stopping, it’s all in the brakes and as important the tires.
Thanks for the generalization.

Sorry meant the statement "Thanks for the generalization." to be addressed to fuhteng.

Hey! An idea for a comparison - maybe put two types of rubber on a car, test the 60-0. Then, change the pads to a softer / "sticker" compound and run the 2 types of rubber again. Finally, change the rotors to something that is vented / drilled and run the matrix of variants again so we can see how upgrading to better pads, rotors, or rubber is worth the $ when it comes to stopping? What do ya say IL? You have the opportunity to provide your reading public with information that we can't easily duplicate! Git-R-Done!

You're welcome drhorrible. I figured it was a bimmer given what part of the country she's in. Here in my part, it would probably be a sorositute on her cell phone in Mom's cheap Lexus.

Agreed with you all. It baffles me as to why Hyundai won't make ABS standard on Accents. Also, why is Traction Control, ESC is standard only on Elantra SE & not Elantra GLS (which has ABS standard)? Even Kia offers these things as standard on the Forte.
Hyundai needs to take care of the low end of the lineup & not just Sonata & above. Accent & Elantra need some love too!

I really wish that this sort of occurrence was exceptional.
Sadly, in my driving, this is what I have come to expect.
I see it daily.

Are you a Houstonian by any chance? Cuz out here in Houston, traffic lights are just a 'suggestion' to these killer moms in their Suburbans & Tahoes & Range Rovers. I wait an extra 2-3 seconds after green just so that these morons don't decide to make me their hood ornament.
What a stark difference from the Germany. Sigh.

Well, there's supposed to be a new Accent come 2011 or 2012 and all new cars must have stability control in the USA starting with 2012 models, so either way I bet we'll see Accents with standard ABS, etc. soon.
Some auto enthusiasts may complain about how new cars have too many "nannies" (ABS etc.), but in the real world, they're awesome to have.

Many stripper econoboxes do not have ABS. Last year I rented a Pontiac G5 (Chevy Cobalt) in Canada. Let's just say drum brakes - ABS + iced-up road = lots of fun.
I learnt to pump the brake pedal while driving that car, and un-learnt that after coming home.

I'm convinced the worst drivers in the world are in LA. Hardly a day goes by where I don't have to avoid a collision (they're not "accidents" when they're caused by incredibly stupid drivers) with some moron.
Turn signals? Red lights? Proper merging? Lane discipline? All foreign concepts out here.

@e90_m3: Well, my point still remains that it's incredibly ironic when a company says they're concerned about your safety and then do stuff like make ABS optional all in the interest of saving the customer (and them) money. Last year I disabled the ABS in my Subaru a couple times just to see what the difference was, and with that car you cannot even feel through the brake pedal if you got a wheel locked up. It's only when you try to steer that you realize, hey, you can't turn! At least with ABS you feel that something's happening.
But back to the topic. There are some crazy drivers out there. Like those who pull out in front of you because they weren't looking in your direction.
