2009 Dodge Ram: Let's Do the Bumper Warp Again

09 dodge ram bumper warpI was standing behind our long-term Ram the other day and happened to notice that the plastic piece on our rear bumper is warping. Deja vu. At least it doesn't get in the way of operating the tailgate, like it did on our long-term Dodge Grand Caravan.

The bumper looks dented? Or is it just the photography angle?

I was going to say the same thing. The plastic ain't the onl thing that's 'warped'.

I don't think this is one that can be chalked upto Chrysler. Probably one of the editors backed into something with company car & 'forgot' to tell anyone about it.

Just reinforces that some IL editors can't drive.

Yup, bumper's been hit. The plastic has been popped out of the chrome of the bumper.

this happened to my 2003 Dodge Ram, took it to the dealer and it was a quick replacement although mine wasn't dented!

Looks more like the bumper is dented and that may be the actual cause of what caused the bumper cover to "warp". Or at least, you'll have a hard time convincing a dealer otherwise if you take it in like that.

Yah, I think this is operator error rather than a manufacturing defect.

Actually, Bryn didn't know that I was rear-ended in the Ram while stopped at a red light. We haven't mentioned it yet because we haven't sorted things out with the insurance companies yet. More info when we have it. -- Donna

Ahh, so the Ram got the California 'Kiss'.

I would put a trailer hitch & leave it there to 'Kiss Back' the rear-enders motor.

You mean this truck didn't come with idiot-repellent bumpers?

jackson611 says:

03:40 PM, 11/ 3/09

and this is why people should take off the standard bumpers on trucks and SUVs and put on steel bumpers.

saxdogg says:

Even worse, a contributing editor didn't realize the bumper was dented?

Are you guys hiring???

the_big_al says:

05:19 PM, 11/ 3/09

yep - I would leave what I call the "idiot's bumper" on. That hitch sticking out several inches will be enough to disable almost any vehicle that decides to get to close...

But it might actually be illegal in some areas to leave the hitch attached if you aren't towing something. I know mine never comes off and I have never had any one of the law enforcing type tell me that though, but I am in a different state so who knows??

saxdogg,

Edmunds IS hiring!

They are looking for a Mc Tech to service all their LT cars.
You know what? I think you have all the skills needed!

Requirements:
Change muffler bearings,
replace the wiper motor oil,
catalytic converter hand pre-warming,
air filter comb and brush pre-cleaning,
2000 rpm belt tension finger testing,
and finally,
Bryn McKinnon's errand boy.

Don't forget the blinker fluid check!

zoomzoomn says:

You know, denting the bumper WILL do that!

audisport says:

How did someone not notice the dented bumper while pointing out the plastic right above it??..... Chrysler has enough negativity regarding durability. We don't need to add to it..

carguy622 says:

Seriously, you couldn't see the dent?!

truckjunkie says:

Wow - just wow... You really didn't see the dent before you made this post? This is a automobile review website, right? Is this really happening? Did I just see a unicorn walk past?

saxdogg says:

CruiserHead1 - I'LL TAKE IT!!!
