Our long-term 2009 Audi S5 has an aluminum outer mirror shell.
Well, at least it looks amazingly like aluminum.
I gave it a rap with my knuckle the other day, then verified (once again) with the Audi Guy: the mirror shell is plastic. But you really can't tell by looking at it, even up close.
However, I think that mirror shell would look even better in body color. What do you think?

Red looks better than the fake aluminum. The fake aluminum looks like something you would see on a souped up mid-90s Honda.

While it's disappointing that it is not real aluminum (which it should be for the price... maybe that glory is saved for the even more expensive RS models?), I like the contrast it provides. Sure, it may not be a perfect match with the S5's red, but I really like it contrasted with Sprint Blue or Meteor Gray.
It would be really nice to see options for the cover, particularly when matched with lighter colors... but please, no carbon fiber :P

I'm a fan of the aluminum-look mirrors. They're a subtle touch to distinguish the S-models from the standard models.

Setting off the mirrors like that gives the car big ears. I don't like it at all. I want those mirrors as integrated as possible.

My vote goes to......as it is right now.
Now, what the heck is wrong with this site? U have to sign in a lot....other sites remember you and thats it. Another faulty design from this website.

The A5 and A4 have body color mirrors. The S5 and S4 have the aluminum look precisely to be something different, even if subtle. (Like the extra tailpipes.)

I like the aluminum-look mirrors, it's a unique touch. Every other car on earth has body-color mirrors.
