2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS: On The Dyno Rollers

car-of-the-week-717.jpgcamaro dyno 2 800.jpg

You knew it was only a matter of time before we strapped down our long-term 2010 Camaro SS to the Dynojet rollers. There are nearly 5000 miles on the big silver lunchbox's odometer, and what better way to celebrate than a dozen wide open-throttle pulls to redline.

Yes, it took several runs for the power to reach a stabilized result but once it was in the zone, it remained fairly consistent from run to run.

As always, the best fuel in our area is 91 octane, but the Camaro's big, understressed 6.2-liter LS3 V8 probably doesn't care too much about frivolities like octane.

MD Automotive's Dynojet chassis dyno was used for this test, and SAE standard correction applied.

No real suprises here aside from the dips in the power delivery at 3200 and again at 4300 rpm. They're fairly pronounced and were repeatable, run after run.

Peak power at the wheels is 370 hp arriving at 6000 rpm, while torque peaks at 343 lb-ft at 5000 rpm. That's about right considering the Camaro generates 426 hp at the flywheel--GM definitely didn't under-rate the claimed power output.

Having 300 lb-ft at your disposal at just 2000 rpm looks great on the dyno chart. However, the Camaro's tall gearing and massive curb weight dull the LS3's low-end snappiness. Still, there's plenty of sauce here, especially for the price.

That is odd to see a dip in power delivery at 3200 & 4300 RPM. Any idea what that is? It seems more pronounced on the torque curve.

14% power lost... GM rated the engine just about right.

I am not a fan of this new website design/layout.

But I am a fan of some good old fashioned V8 power!

I hate the new website as well. The hp looks right but torque seems a little low on your dyno run.

Do the dips in HP\TQ line up with gear changes?

And no the new site it not better.

I don't normally comment on this blog, but this layout has made me sign in and say...its rubbish!

I'm sorry guys but this layout is wayyy too big and mixed around. I loved the old layout but I severely dislike this one. Please change back :(

Agree with the general consensus about the layout...

I was part of the users panel about a year or so ago when Edmunds was developing the new website, this layout was one of the options but not the one that I preferred... Oh wellz.

Looks like it's not always perfect, either, in how it renders from browser to browser.

Anyway, the torque dips in delivery are actually likely torque management routines in the ECM. I've heard tunes are good for getting the lumps out. But I doubt you guys are going to flash the ECM of your Camaro with an aftermarket tune. :)

Other the the white background, I think the new website is better. MUCH easier to navigate, and the pictures finally show up decent size on my high resolution screen!!!! Now only if we had an EDIT button? or am I just not seeing it?

Ya, I agree the new web site looks dull...I perfer the last color scheme. Anyway I'm alway disapointed to see the real numbers generated at the wheel. It seems to me it's like the old standard of MPG calculation, you never were able to achive those... They probably should advertize the right numbers. Its a bummer realy!

I really this this is just like the new facebook all over again. Everyone hated it, but over time, they learned it and nobody really left. I think I'll get used to it, even though it's disrespectful to my 4:3 monitor

Are those dips the shift points?

jk, drop me an email if you guys want to tune this thing. We have support for custom tuning the factory ECU. Would work best with mods, but we can probably make some improvements even stock.

Nice engine shot, but they really cover up the valve covers with doodads, eh? I know- it would all be under a cover, anyway. It just seems like they just weren't that interested in presenting the sheer mechanical beauty of this 6.2 L beast, for those who do peek past the cover. :( I mean, how often is it that a 400+ hp v8 graces the light of day? Shouldn't they indulge a bit more in showing it off? Why waste the opportunity, imo...

Shouldn't be shift points in a dyno pull. Maybe it's VTEC. Ha.

Pretty sad puts out less torque at a higher rpm than the 5.7 hemi! Then it's tested with almost three thousand miles more on the clock then the Challenger Rt! 12 runs on the Camaro 4 on the Challenger seems fair right? Generous Motors

Body Blue your really impressed with the 6.2 camaro will lookat the dyno charts the 5.7 hemi makes more power & torque to 5000 rpm where there even got to run to 6000rpm to get more power from that 6.2 thats laughable!!! And the 5.7 makes more torque with 3000 less miles on car 350 versus 343 for the 6.2 Generous motors Edmunds.com
